It is shocking, really, that this is the
only book that has been written about the late Jerry Goldsmith. I personally consider him the greatest of composers who worked in film simplyby virtue of his staggering versatility and the rhythmic drive and intensity of his action writing. He was a composer whose style of writing was moremodernist than his more musically accessible--and more famous---contemporary John Williams who is another great favorite of mine. Mr. Dupuis touches on the many components that made Goldsmith the staggering talent that he was. I was working on my own book about the maestro (and perhaps I still will) and upon reading this book my admiration for the man has intensified. He is the only composer whose music Ipurchase indiscriminately no matter what reviews have to say about them. I only wish the author of this work had more to say on the subject as only 168 pages is pretty scant about a composer whose work was so expansive. But, as he said, he will leave that to others. But as it is this is a very well researched and solid dissertation on one of our greatest composers. This is a book well worth having for anyone seriously interested in the creators of great music.

Really nice overview of Goldsmith's long career in Hollywood as a ...
Really nice overview of Goldsmith's long career in Hollywood as a composer, although not as in-depth and probing as you find in the Herrmann bio, "A Heart at Fire's Center". There is great effort to chart the hallmarks of Goldsmith's music that run across all his work, plus highlight the occasions where the score stands apart from the rest, whether due to orchestration, instrumentation or application to the film. Recommended for ardent and casual fans of Goldsmith and film scoring in general. For many Goldsmith fans there may not be surprises in terms of tracking his career, but it's illuminating to read what Dupuis feels is worthy and connections he makes among the vast body of Goldsmith's work.

A good study for Goldsmith fans
A bit academic but still a good look at the mind of Jerry Goldsmith. A true innovator of film music.

Good little intro to Jerry Goldsmiths music
Good little book and intro to the works of Jerry Goldsmith. I read it fast so I now want to get CD's and Vinyls with the different scores mentioned in the book.

First book on Jerry Goldsmith is an ok start
Not a bad essay at times but does veer off the subject and does not seem to offer anything new on the composer. Shame we never got to read his daughter's book that never made it to publication. Still if you love the music of the great Jerry Goldsmith it is a must to have anything available on the composer in your collection.

Fast delivery
Book in excellent condition. It arrived more quickly than anticipated, which is always good. For those who are a fan of Mr.Goldsmith and his work, this is a must have book, altough there are many 'reviews' of works that I do not judge the same way. But a good read nonetheless.

Dupuis, perché l'ha fatto?
Leggendo la precedente recensione sono rimasto basito. No!!!!
