Montana: High, Wide, and Handsome

Great book. It is interesting to see a history of an area, from a time when it was happening. Very well written, very interesting, and a Top Ten book of all time.Read this book.

It was not clear that this was written in the 1940s...

Once was required reading many MT history classes, wonderful easy flowing style, very talented author, one of the defining books of Montana history.

It kept my interest at times but lost me in some places. It did make me want to learn more about the beautiful state of Montana.

If you like leftist criticism of conservative states you will love this book. You will find cynicism on page after page of eye-rolling drivel. If only leftists reviewed their own states and environmental issues as much as their neighbors. Montana has fascinating history with a toughness of any frontier state has for it's time on the fringe of lawlessness. Every state has improprieties, but if create a work focusing on negative moments in history, you find yourself writing about the low, narrow and ugly.... A terrible read, I should never have purchased the book.
