Beatrice is perfect
This was a treat! A bigger debutante who is smart, fun and brave - wins her duke over the nastiness of the Mean girls. Another ovely story from Eloisa James.

It's a Novella
I love reading Eloisa James and she doesn't dissappoint in this book. She is always a good read.Am only giving this book 4 stars not 5 this is just for the story. The dissapointing bit of this book for me is the size only 128 pages and the price of this book is a similar price as to if you bought one of Eloisa 300+ page books. So if you want to read it I suggest you purchase on your kindle as it will be cheaper and better value. Plus this story is similar to one of her other books Not That Duke. And am just wondering if these are prelude short stories before that series of books came out? Guess I will find out when I read the other 2 books in this series that are also thin novellas?

Not sure what this was trying to be…..
This didn’t work for me at all; and I’ve adored all Eloisa James’s novels to date. I wasn’t sure what she was trying to do with it; it had the feel of a screwball comedy from Ealing Studios circa 1950s…but without the sharp humour or clever plot. It felt hammed and characters - especially the Duke came across as cardboard cut outs. The love scenes were just silly…and not in a good way. Gives me no pleasure writing a review like this (I think Eloisa J’s writing is usually truly excellent) - but, when there’s a sloppy typo in first couple of chapters and it’s priced at over £7 for 162 pages - then I feel short changed. The publishers and editor not doing the brand of EJ any favours publishing this one.

Utter rubbish
The bulk of this peurile and silly book is as follows. Bitchy bully girl is certifiably insane but her brother is a duke. Her curvy fat friend gets a bucket of water thrown over her but ends up with the duke, 3 kids and a stepchild whom we hope hasn't inherited his bitchy mother's tendancies. A waste of my time, money and patience. The worst book I have read in 2023. Utterly dire, poor prose littered with errors and incredibly unbelievable, semi-porn insta-lust.

not for me
This started really well but about half way through it just began to feel rushed and somewhat unbelievable. I’m never very convinced by a love at first sight romance and it also quickly descended into a sort of mutual appreciation dialogue where the duke reassures Bea that he actually does adore the curves his sister has lambasted her for but as he doesn’t really know her, it felt a little premature. I’m also really not convinced that it would be possible to do what they do in a regency carriage. A real shame as all the banter and wit just disappears. Not my favourite Eloisa James sadly.

Buyer's regret
Below standard for this writer, noticed this series is not released by her usual publisher. Regret buying this book and the second book in the series. This writer is now deleted from my list of favourite authors.

excellent!
Wonderful! Loved the writing, the story, the characters, the plot. It was too short. A very quick read. On to the next! Thanks for the pleasure of reading the book!

TWO DANCES AND A DUKE
The beginning of the book made me think it was not good reading , because it is a little difficult to follow, but the more I read, the better it got. Lots of new words for me and I like that. Was not boring, and even had some sexy scenes, which gave this book a steamy twist, and it was not distasteful. It was a good book! J🐰

Thoughtless, inaccurate, inconsistent.
I can tell this was made with hope and love, so I'm sorry to bring pain to the author, but... It's not well made.If we guide ourselves by what we know of the era (most of us from reading Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen, etc.), there is so much historical inaccuracy in this... So many situations, reactions, conversations, comments and scenes that simply wouldn't have happened in those days. Physical bullying, lascivious comments, awfully rude and direct insults to be heard by all society, etc. It was not realistic at all! These people were always polite, even when being mean and cutting!!Also, the storyline was not realistic: the H and h meet and practically fall in love within 2 days, despite him being an arrogant duke. And did she have self-esteem issues or not? One moment she thought of herself as a pig and the next she was fine... What is it?And nothing really happened! The H and H meet I think 3 times (in consecutive days!) and the story is done. No major drama, except for the bullying sister (which read infantile and high school mean girls of today)... I was expecting the story to start after the third day but suddenly it's the end.And the blurb built up the second male lead and a potential triangle forming, but no such thing... They interact maybe 1 and a half times and not much happens. Nothing there.I'm sorry, but this was thoughtless.

Always a good read!
I really liked this book, funny and endearing. A very nice heroine who lands the Duke! What's not to like? In any case, Eloisa James 's books r always so good and a sure one to go to when you need a nice read!

Delightful
A lovely short read that moves quickly due to its shorter length. Interesting characters and a lot of fun. A very mean and nasty character that never seems to improve and another who remembers to stand up for herself.
