Utterly confusing--couldn't finish it
I hoped to like this book because I'm fascinated by historical utopias. I couldn't get the connection between the historical fiction sections of this book and the post-apocalyptic sci-fi-fantasy parts. The author plops them in with zero explanation. I liked the portions that were Camilla's diary, and I thought that storyline had a lot of potential. But I disliked Xenia and everything in the sci-fi world. The part where [spoilers] Xenia has a sexual relationship with her captor was quite disturbing. That's abuse, but this enlightened woman [?] from the future doesn't seem to know or care. Ew! I was also offended by the author's tendency to sprinkle F-bombs everywhere. There was so much gratuitous vulgarity that I had to stop reading. I guess I'll never find out what linked Camilla's diary to the sci-fi world.
