Why I Gave the Giraffe Retractable a ONE-star Rating ⇢ FOLLOWUP 3/29/24
The 1-Star Review I gave was due to one simple, but major fault: the retractable reel did not retract. Customer service asked for a video which I promptly sent. They then promised to send me an entire new reel + all accessories (which was not necessary). This was received and the replaced reel works fine. So anyone reading this can disregard the 1-Star and consider this a 5-Star (or perhaps a 4-Star) rating. Explanation in full: This was an easy installation if: user identifies a stud, uses an impact driver, perhaps uses a 1/4-in x 2-in hot-dipped galvanized hex-head exterior lag screws which most hardware/Lowes/HomeDepots have. Suggest use smaller drill after marking holes with pencil to be sure you are into solid wood. I like to drill a smaller diameter hole to prevent cracking of the wood before using impact driver for the larger 1/4 lag screws. I did not use what Giraffe sent. When the originally sent reel would not retract I tried to find a site that provided a way for me to fix this--I found some but no suggestion worked. After Giraffe customer service agreed to send out new reel I could not find anyone that would dry to fix this-- a shame to toss out 65 feet of hose. No takers. I took apart the reel looking for a way to fix and then give away. Many screws & handle to remove but done. I could see the spring had somehow "sprung" and not enough tension. I tried to remedy this but realized special equipment would be needed- like the equipment likely used by Giraffe. I gave up. I cut off the hose inside the reel, fitted it with a female mend kit & will use it for emergencies like fires. Would give 4-4.5 stars feeling that quality control might have been better. I would give Customer Service 6-Stars if possible because in today's world most companies provide horrible service to customers. In fact, Customer Svc was so good, I amend this to 5-Stars.Less than one year ago, I purchased the Giraffe Tools CW20 Retractable Garden Hose Reel 5/8" x 65 ft Heavy Duty Water Hose Reel. Of course, the main feature that attracted me was its retractability or recoiling. When I went to winterize my yard and the last use of the Giraffe, it would not retract.I could not find any easy way for me to fix this. Today, I examined the Giraffe where the hose exits and noted that a knot had formed. I spent a half hour and finally untangled the knot, but the Giraffe would only retract a few feet. I did buy another brand for my remaining spigot; GLAHODEN Retractable Garden Hose Reel, 5/8in x 65ft+6ft Slow Return System Water Hose Reel, and that has worked flawlessly. Conclusion: don't spend the money to buy a product that lasts only one season.

Giraffe did make good on sending me a hose reel that promises to hold up to Arizona heat.
The media could not be loaded. UPDATE:Giraffe Tools did send me a new retractable hose reel and this model does have a metal mounting bracket. This one promises to hold up better t our Arizona heat. I've now given 4 stars for their willingness to make this right.I have installed the hose reel twice with 2 different plastic mounting brackets. Under warm temperatures the plastic material softens and bends under the reel's weight. This mounting bracket needs to be made of metal. I contacted customer service with the above video, alerting them to this problem and was told no metal bracket exists but they would send me another plastic one. This is a design flaw that they refuse to correct. I love the hose reel but having it hang wonky like this doesn't work for me as it creates problems with the retraction function due to the misalignment it creates. Giraffe needs to get back to the drawing board on this!!

Not bad, but don’t pay full price.
I purchased this June 2023, so we went through almost a full summer with it and just hooked everything up again for this summer. If I was going to purchase one for myself again, I would probably look into another brand. This one isn’t bad, and gets the job done for a decent price (when on sale), but it has some big flaws. The first thing we noticed when we installed it was that the bracket that attaches to the wall is plastic... You don’t want to see that when you have 65’ of 5/8” hose reeled up, but so far it’s still attached to the house, likely because I stuck some blocking beneath it to help keep the weight off the plastic bracket/pin combo. There was definite give to the plastic when we had it hanging so that’s why we opted to add blocking beneath. It’s possible it would hold up without it, but we didn’t see a reason to risk it. My husband is a general contractor so thankfully making adjustments and shoring things up is easy for us, but may not be for someone else. Additionally, using blocking means you can’t really move the hose reel. It’s supposed to swing side to side and you’d have to remove the blocking and replace it once you moved the reel. That’s not really gonna happen. So, if you’re purchasing for the swinging feature, just know that you won’t be able to easily do that if you opt to use any type of blocking to support it. I suppose you could just use the blocking when the hose is not in use. We attached this to our brick house and my husband used his own screws/anchors. He never trusts the ones that come with. The second thing I noticed was that the hose gets stuck in the middle of pulling it out, all the time. There is a specific speed at which you need to pull the hose out to make sure it doesn’t automatically catch and stop it. That’s not a huge issue because I learned quickly how best to pull the hose and that I need to be perfectly level with the opening. Annoying, but not a problem once I realized what the issue was.Another thing to note is that you also need to be perfectly lined up to pull the hose and initiate the retraction. Again, easy to learn where the sweet spot is, but also annoying. Additionally, when this thing retracts, it RETRACTS. Hold on to it!Originally I really liked the spray nozzle that came with it, but upon using it for the first time this season today, there was water shooting out of everywhere! It was almost impressive that it had turned into a multi direction sprinkler head. In Al seriousness though, that really disappointed me. At the end of the summer we fully drained the hose, disconnected it from the water, made sure our blocking beneath it was still supporting the reel, and then covered it with plastic. The spray nozzle was stored in the garage! There is no reason that this spray nozzle should randomly not be working. I will say that all the fittings on the actual hose and leader hose seem water tight and that’s arguably the most important thing.I actually just purchased another one of these hose reels yesterday as a Mother’s Day gift for my mom. She loved mine last season and I was able to get it for $99. For that price it was worth the inconveniences that come with it. Funny that I should go to use the spray nozzle for the first time today and it’s not working. I would have honestly purchased something else for her if I had known that. Minor, but it’s kind of a final straw. None of these issues are major, but all of them together makes the hose reel a little costly for how it operates. I really think there could be a nicer, updated version to this that would fix these issues.

Still difficult to install on wood siding but we got some large white anchors and it worked great!
Took 3 hrs and 4 trips to Home Depot and still very difficult to install on patio wall siding. Then the first time I pulled the hose out it worked and stopped perfectly. After that with the water shut off it would not stop but kept retracting when I wanted it to stop. Now there’s huge holes in my siding and a non working garden retractable hose!!!! Refund pleaseThis is a follow-up review-after texting many times with Grace from Giraffe and sending them a short video how the product did not work, they promptly sent a replacement garden hose and it works great! Thank you Grace for all your daily messages and thank you for standing behind your product!

Tidy hose storage
Great for in the garage. Just need to feed the hose in consistently. Nozzle is a little cheap so replaced with a metal one.

Well Worth It
Getting a little older and dealing with the long hose to water the garden was becoming a chore for my wife. She wasn’t complaining but you know the saying happy wife happy life. It’s funny, you don’t know how awesome some things are until you experience them. With that said, this hose reel worked perfectly. Install is a bit of a job but not impossible. Trust me on this, the brownie points you’re going to get will be well worth it. Mother’s Day gift. Recommend.

Was Sceptical ar First
I’ve had this type of hose reel a few times in the past few years. They always stop self retracting pretty quickly, so was skeptical that this would do the same. I’ve used mine for about eight months so far without any issue. Pretty happy with the product based on the price and quality.

Good product, poor installation instructions
I consider myself very handy and knew when I saw these anchors that they would be a pain. Sure enough they were. I would scrap the anchors that they provide and go with tapcons. Save yourself the headache. And yes I used the correct size drill bit and marked the depth of the anchor.

Easy to install but l the plastic support pipe is bending. No longer works right, does not lock.
Update to the review: After less than a year the hose no longer locks at a length, always wants to retrieve making it very difficult to use. Purchased the Giraffe Tools Hose Reel CW20 with 9 Adjustable Sprayer Nozzle 5/8 in. x 65 FT Water Hose Retractable Garden Hose Reel, Wall Mounted Hose Reel with 180 Swivel Bracket to clean up the mess that my hose normally winds up in. I found it easy to install and it works ok but I feel like the plastic tube used as the support for the swivel is very flimsy and is going to break at some point in time. Spent a bit of time getting the part that attaches to the house level but once it was installed it still drooped about 6 degrees or so. The rewind mechanism is a bit tight and it takes several tries to get the hose to rewind. I will probably look at replacing the plastic pipe with a steel one to get a better fit and more security.

Only one issue
Love the hose reel. Have had it all summer and used it pretty much everyday to water flowers and plants. Pull the hose out and then back in it goes. Guessing I'd say it has been in and out close to 100 times and I've had no issues. Nice not having a hose all over the place or hanging off a hose hook looking like a mess. Only issue I've had is the pin that goes through the mounting bracket and hooks the reel to the wall/bracket. It looks like it is stressed a bit when the hose is full of water. I'll see how long the bracket/pin lasts but very happy with this puchase
