It’s a surprisingly heavy cocktail shaker. Unlike our old one, this one is far weightier and bigger, with a much chunkier width. If you’ve got small hands and/or joint inflammation like arthritis, the larger width of this isn’t helpful and you might, like me, need two hands to use it. Bigger hands shouldn’t have a problem though, and the body of the shaker is texturised to help with grip.What I really struggled with when I first opened this was getting the lid off. The small lid on top where you dispense the drink undid just fine. The main part, where you open up into the shaker compartment, just wouldn’t budge at all. Both require an anticlockwise twist so maybe this top was just screwed on way too tightly. After several attempts I gave up and tried again the next day and after several more attempts, I finally undid it! It shouldn’t be that difficult though, and it’s not helped by the slippery surface and too-wide width of the shaker in my small hands.Inside the box you get the shaker itself inside a plastic bag and a small booklet with cocktail recipes. The mixing spoon and measuring cup is inside the shaker. There’s no padding inside so they might be rattling about quite a bit when loose.The style and manufacture here seems really good, with stainless steel construction, leakproof design, and double wall vacuum insulation. It feels very sturdy and the steel outer seems more resistant than our old cheap shaker to marks and fingerprints. There are measurements inside the shaker, which is helpful. It’s a good size shaker, with the brand suggesting a capacity of 28 ounces (or approx 828ml). It does as described, keeping the insides cool but without lots of water collecting as condensation on the outside and without leaking when shaking vigorously. The thing is I don’t want to twist it too tightly incase I can’t undo it again!This is £75 at the time of writing and personally, I can’t justify a price like that for a cocktail shaker. It’s a set so you get a couple of other bits but I’d want more in it to round it out for such a price tag, and I’d want fancier packaging and something extra special about it all. If money isn’t a problem, it’s a good investment that should hopefully wear well. For me, the other downside is the width as it just makes holding it (and undoing it) very tricky and impractical. So in all, it’s sturdy and heavy and you can feel the quality, but I couldn’t see myself spending the full price on it for myself or as a gift.
