FileMaker 12 In Depth

I purchased this book because I have the FileMaker 10 In Depth and I liked it. I wanted a book on 12 and this was the first book out so I was excited to get it. Not. The reason it is first out is because it does not include much info on Filemaker Pro 12. It appears the author simply did a find/replace on 11 to 12. Yes, there are a few instances of new narrative covering the possibilities of FMP 12 but no substance. There is no information on the new features or what sets 12 apart from the previous versions. There is so much difference that FMP 12 files cannot be read by previous versions but, there is nothing in this book that outlines those differences between the versions. I found a whole half a page on mobile devices! There should be chapters on this if not a separate book. Themes: very little and nothing on the new themes. Improved container fields: nothing new to say. My recommendation is to wait and save your money to purchase a real FMP 12 book rather then this book. At best, I say it is Filemaker 11.75. I gave it 2 stars because for a newbie, this book provides an overview of where the previous versions have brought us.

A good manual but there are issues that are not touched on as well as some area that looked at to a greater degree than other books but doesn't really go the extra mile to cover "what if's" or suggestions to alternatives. I gave it a 3 star rating because I believe there are other manuals that would be of greater benefit.

It didn't have the information I needed, which was how to define entries for music and movies.

really in depth, covers almost every thing you might need from filemaker.i just wish if the screen shots in the text were colored instead of black & white.

Fantastic 'reprint' of the FM help files. Much quicker and definitely more portable... 8-) I keep this book by my desk as 'the' go - to reference.

Ha impiegato qualche giorno in più di quanto previsto al massimo dal sistema di vendita amazon.Il libro sembra in buone condizioni, peccato la confezione di spedizione che consisteva in una semplice busta di plastica per cui lungo il tragitto deve aver subito parecchio "stress" e forse per questo il libro ha qualche segno esternamente. Per fortuna è arrivato così e non peggio...

Not as in depth as you'd want it to be. It covers the basics, but it doesn't really go into much detail of advanced uses or troubleshooting. I find myself looking for answers on the internet. Still, it's an excellent place to start.

The print edition for this book via amazon has been delayed, so I decided to download the Kindle edition to my iPad as I was really keen to get a copy of this book.The layout was terrible with blank pages all over the place and various symbols on otherwise blank pages, also there are disjointed diagrams. I wondered if this was just a problem on the iPad version of kindle so I downloaded it onto my Kindle DX again the same issue :(Unfortunately these issues make the ebook extremely hard (if not nearly impossible) to follow.I'm sure the content is good, but had I known about these issues I would not have bought the Kindle edition (I'd wait for the book version), someone has been very sloppy about formatting this ebook, I expect much better than this from Que !!!My advice is avoid the ebook until they sort out the formatting!!A real waste of £17 but it looks like I cannot get a refund from Amazon on Kindle orders :(

Das Buch ist grafisch gut aufgebaut und verständlich. Meines Erachtens ist aber der Titel "..in depth" doch vollkommen verfehlt, weil etliche wichtige neue Dinge in FileMaker 12 gar nicht erwähnt werden.Ein bisschen mehr Sorgfalt hätte das Buch noch sehr viel nützlicher gemacht.

Das Buch ist für alle, die sich intensiver mit FileMaker auseinandersetzen wollen ein umbedingtes Muss. Es zeigt alle wichtigen Aspekte auf.

Difficult to read and view illustrations at same time using Kindle for iPad. Low on usable detail and examples. Hardly in an in depth account. Barely up to the ankles.
