This is the best Chinese history book for children I have found on the market. The author expands what he has promised in the book title to engage young readers through an intriguing narration of early history events. His words flow naturally from sentence to sentence and his illustrations are vivid in developing connections to those events. Rather than lengthy writings about big topics, the author focuses on single major events and change-maker characters that have formed the foundation and transition of developments during the history periods. This approach, combined with his easy-to-read writing style, makes the book stand out from its competitors. A+ strongly recommended.

Great introduction to Chinese history and mythology for anyone interested in the topic, not just younger audiences. In particular, I would recommend it to any Chinese Americans who are looking for ways to reconnect with the culture.This book is easy to devour yet captures the nuances of the original stories. The thoughtful translations of names / historical concepts and illustrations are a nice touch and help bring the stories to life. It's reminiscent of Hamilton's "Mythology" but with Chinese legends and historical figures.Looking forward to the next installment!

The characters and events from over 2000 years ago come to life from the 300-plus pages of the book.The book has fulfilled its goal as the only Chinese history book in the English language that appeals to and inspires young readers as well as adults like me. Students often find history books boring, dreary and irrelevant to their lives. But this book is the opposite; it is entertaining, inspiring and motivating. The stories are not only interesting but also provokes critical thinking. The book also contains dozens of maps and illustration that further enhance its readability.For serious readers, the book also contains appendices with a chronology of events and a detailed index of contents.I highly recommend this book to any reader, old and young, interested in learning about the amazing history of China. I was looking for the right book to help my kids to learn Chinese history. I started with some books written in Chinese, but they are too difficult for kids growing up in the U.S. and I don't have time myself to read to them. Then I came across this book. Recently, my son has been reading it every night on the bed before he goes to sleep, and ask me questions and discuss the historical events with me. I am glad to see he enjoys the book and also enjoy the autonomy to study history himself. Highly recommend it!

This book is awesome. It is packed with epic battles, legendary stories, and descriptions of ancient dynasties that cascades down to details. Although it's a book for young readers, it's perfectly suitable for a non-Chinese adult like me who just want to learn about Chinese history without being overwhelmed. Both my daughter and I like it. The author's storytelling is very vibrant, truly easy to read. It provided a captivating journey to the past, and sparked my imagination through the entire reading.

With vivid pictures, one of the best books for English reading children and adults to know and understand the long and rich history of China. The author comes from the state of Confucious, then Qi-Lu and now the Shandong province which is considered the states with most respecting and consideration of others.

My child is super excited to get this book, he is seven this year and tried to read the first chapter by himself and he is surprised to know how the world was like in the ancient China. I love this book which covers all the knowledge of different dynamics in Chinese history. We can’t wait to explore more fun in this book with the kids.
