I had gotten Orrington Farms Ham Base years ago. When I ran out I began a quest to either find THIS, or whatever I could that would be as good as this. Growing up 20 miles from the Smithfield Meat Plant in Portsmouth, Va., ham was omnipresent - all kinds of ham dishes everywhere. This ham base is the only one I've found that even comes close to the smokey flavor I'd grow up with. I kid you not, I must have tried 12-15 different "ham bases" and once I found this again, my quest was over.The flavor is strong, and even sweet to a degree. I use it with eggs, casseroles, sandwiches, salads, and even roasted almonds. Truth be told, I've even taken a spoon and had a taste by itself. Yum!!Hands down, this is the BEST you can find. This product has been discontinued in the grocery stores in my area. It offers a smoky ham flavor to many dishes without the actual meat. A little goes a long way.

I use this in my green beans and pintos where pork flavoring is needed. Have used this for many years and will continue as long as I can get this.

Great seasoning for cabbage and potatoes. Any ham base dishes will be more flavorful.

I can not remember the brand name that I had bought from my local store, but they no longer carry it. The taste of this could use a little more ham flavor.

Makes the best beans EVER! No salt needed! Initially bought this as part of our prepper outfit, to be able to make flavorful beans when we can't get hocks or pork shoulder. Now we use it every time, and don't fuss with hocks at all.

This took care of my bland bean soup and added the ham flavor.
