Bigger and sturdier than expected
I thought these would be substantially smaller, (yes, I saw the size and volume, but I'm a bit dimensionally challenged). But these are much bigger than I expected -- really generously sized. They are unexpectedly well made, too. Sturdy, super heavy duty, built to last. Like the stuff in professional kitchens. Very high quality. I admit, I was blown away when we opened the package. And that was before I even used them!I was pleased with the size, but even more with the quality. No skimping anywhere. Even the lids are super sturdy -- tough, durable and well made. And yes, you can actually use them for trays. And not just for a paper plate of crackers. (see photo). That's a big pile of porkchops. The inside of each box (you get 3!) is super smooth and glossy. And that's not just for pretty. It actually serves to make them extra easy to clean, (because the food can't stick anywhere). They are dishwasher safe, but they'd take up a lot of the space in my dishwasher and they're super easy to clean. So I've been just handwashing mine, so far.The instructions include tips for cleaning, (like if you get food stains or residual smells), but I haven't needed them. So far I've been doing flatbreads and pizza. And marinating an entire pork loin's worth of pork chops at a time. And also a couple of whole chickens. When I have to salt down our next eye-roast and refrigerate it overnight, I'll be so glad I have these! Plenty of room.I'm sure there are dozens of uses I haven't even thought of yet -- because really, how useful is a super heavy duty plastic box with a snug-fitting-but-not-airtight lid? Because airtight, (depending on what you put in,) might possibly explode on you?I am so delighted with this item -- they've exceeded my every expectation. The boxes even nest together when empty to save on storage space, and also stack -- securely -- with their lids on. And they're so sturdy they'd likely make a stable stack clear to the ceiling. Love these, and recommend highly.

an absolute game-changer
This is my first proofing box and I have to say, it is a delightful and necessary tool! I have been putting my pizza dough in individual plastic containers and have always wondered if that was the best way to handle them. I do a two hour rise after preparing the dough, then cut it into 4 dough balls, then refrigerate for at least 36 hours in individual plastic storage containers. I replaced the individual containers with the proofing box. After dividing the dough, I placed all four dough balls in the proofing box. Upon placing the lid on the box, it did not seem to specifically latch on. I neither felt it catch or heard any click. I picked the box up from the lid (over the counter) to see how secure it was, and it just wasn’t. So be aware, do not carry this box by the lid. As mentioned, this is my first proofing box, I have no idea what the norm is.Once everything was set, I put the box in the refrigerator for two days.Fast-forward to baking time; this box is a game-changer! The dough in individual plastic containers does not result in any increase in size during the cold fermenting stage. In the proofing box however, the dough at least doubled in size. Upon retrieving the dough for use, I discovered that the dough was much closer to pizzeria-style dough than I have ever been able to produce.pros:- makes packaging up my dough for cold fermenting much easier- makes the dough absolutely pizzeria style- easy to clean - the surfaces are slick, making then somewhat non-stick- easy to store - all three can be combined to be not much bigger than individual box- easy to usecons:- the lid is not secure - caveat, I do not know if this is how proofing boxes work or if it is a defect- it takes up more space than individual containers. if you are only making one dough is the same footprint as multiple doughs.

Sturdy proofing boxes
The LUVCOSY 3-Piece Pizza Dough Proofing Boxes with Lids are a solid option if you are looking for dough proofing boxes. They arrive in a fun, colorful box, so they are suitable for gifting. I did not detect any unpleasant "new plastic smell" when I opened the box.PROS:* Durable construction - both the boxes and the lids are made from thick BPA-free plastic that will maintain structural integrity even when loaded up.* Uniform sizing - all 3 boxes and lids were made uniformly. The lids fit equally well on any of the boxes.* Multi-functional - the boxes could also be used to hold pasta salad for like 20 people or cookies for your entire office, and the lids could be used as a serving tray in a pinch.* Stackable - the boxes and lids nest nicely for easy storage.CONS:* The lids do fasten securely onto the boxes, but I do wish they made a click or some kind of noise to indicate they are on properly.* At the same time, they are on pretty securely, so it does take a little effort to get the lid off. To me, this is not a big deal because it's worth the effort to remove the lid in exchange for the nice, tight seal when the lid is on.* The boxes could have a slightly reduced height to be more space efficient.

not watertight, but made of thick material
These are nice containers… very robust, not at all flimsy.I like the size though I wouldn’t try proofing four of anything but small pizza dough balls, like 200g max, and even they would likely grow till they were sticking together.I like that they’re stackable and that the lids are heavy enough to serve as trays… but that also creates another problem: those heavy lids can be difficult to remove easily. In the struggle to remove the lid, you could end up degassing your dough a bit by banging the container around. Also, the heaviness of the lid makes it a lot less flexible which means the containers are not watertight or airtight. That doesn’t bother me for proofing dough, but care should be taken if you’re using the containers for marinating meats, etc. or for storing soups and sauces.
