Excellent - couldn't wait to read a little more each day
It's a long book, but it captured my attention with its vivid descriptions not only of events but also of the people who were part of Billy Graham's long life. The updated edition published this year has additional material that cover his life from his mid-70s to mid-90s. I recommend it highly.

Graham was an important part of American religious life and culture in the 20th century
A good biography, updated in 2018. That's the year Graham died. But, even though the new introduction is dated March 2018, the month after Graham died, by the last chapter Graham is still alive.Anyway, it is an in-depth, detail narrative recounting of Graham, his life, his evangelism, his career, his engagement with politics, and an inside look at his crusades and organization. Very little is given about the books he wrote; a little more is given about his engagement with theology (or, rather, disengagement). Graham was an evangelist: a spreader of the good news, a man who tried to draw men to Christ. He wasn't a deep theologian. His ecumenicism abounds through the book. Graham's connections to power, especially presidents, and especially Nixon, is given, though I think his relationship with Reagan may have been deeper than detailed here.Graham was an important part of American religious life and culture in the 20th century. The growth of evangelistic and even fundamentalist Protestantism can be directly related to his career in America. An important book, but a bit of a slog in spots.

Graham and Nixon
This book is primarily about Graham's association with Nixon. There are sprinklings of information about Graham's crusades, family, and personal life. Anyone wanting to know about the man and his calling should read Just as I am. This author made politics the main agenda of this book. Also, the author too often used $20 words for some of the simplest words. I had this gut feeling that he was writing to impress someone, if not everyone, with his vocabulary. I found the book boring, slow, and self-repeating. I am sure the author has some 12 letter words that would say the same. I gave 2 stars only for the effort made by some minimum wage worker running the book printing press. I only hope he was not required to read it.

A Balanced Evaluation
This book portrays both Graham’s strength and his weakness in engaging prose. Both researchers and the average reader will find Martin’s book to be a wonderful companion volume to Graham’s autobiography.
