Stanley Spares 112701 Kit 2 Large Bailey Plane Handles Kit

I suppose the plastic handles are not to everyone's taste. But for me, if you are not too bothered about the original looks and you want to get an old-hand plane working again they do the job just fine. I fitted these to my late father's 1962 dated Chatham dockyard issued Woden number 5 plane.The plane was in a very sorry state and needed a new rear handle and a good clean, it had probably never been used for at least 35 years. The plastic handles are identical to the wooden ones and fitted to the metal castings very well. In the kit you get all the parts you need, and in the imperial and metric threads. Being a plane that is sixty years old I needed to use the imperial threads.When fitting the only problem I came across was the brass nut would not tighten down enough on the handle shaft. It was easily fixed by cutting about 4mm from the end of each of the threads with a junior hacksaw. I also had to file the molding line down the center of each handle so it felt better in the hand. Overall a very good value kit that got an old Woden number 5 hand plane working again.

After 40 years of careful use I knocked my 40+ year old plane on the floor and broke the wooden handle. Ordered this kit, arrived quickly and the main handle fits like a glove sadly the knob is smaller diameter and does not sit right down on the body of the plane so did not use it. It looked horrible.Open to correction but couldn't see why all the other bits (threaded rods x 4, brass nuts, screws and washers etc) are needed. Mine were fine and identical to those supplied.

Bought to repair a Stanley No 5 long, fitted perfect. Came with metric and imperial screw rods and nuts. It even came with brass nuts rather than the silver ones picture which was great as it matched the rest of my planes.Hand and knob are both plastic which is obviously not as nice to hold as the traditional wood handles but you can't go wrong for the price and now I have a working plane again!

Salvaged an old Stanley No6 Plane from a skip many years ago. It was in a very sorry state, severely rusted with no rear handle . Decided to restore it when I saw this kit last week. Along with a brand new blade, when I fitted the new handles, I now have a superb old plane that works every bit as well as a new plane. Very pleased with this kit. It came with two long retaining screws and two short ones, but the threads are fine on one of each of the bolts and coarse on the others. I'm assuming that this may be because some plane bases have different threads and the kit provides for both. I only needed one set so it was immaterial, but a nice thought if there are two kinds of threads. Superb value for money, would recommend the kit to anyone suffering a broken plane handle

Well it sort of dose the job. The plastic parts are not finished very well but can be refinished to make a proper job. Just as well I only wanted the rear handle the front hand grip was on the small side compared with the original and its base would not have sat properly in the casting. Metal studs and screws are fine.

these are made of plastic , i don't have to worry about them breaking plus they come with new screws. the best part they fit my large hands

This was the best price I found for a replacement handle. Fit perfectly on my stanley bailey#4 1/2. Included bolts with 2 types of threads to fit older and newer planes. Very happy with this purchase.
