Tide Time Nautical Tide Clock - Flag Face

I fancied a tide clock to keep in my potting shed, indicating the best time to take my dog for a walk on the beach, which he loves. I'm very pleased with this purchase but would like to mention a couple of points which weren't obvious from the Amazon page where it's advertised - in fact I think I'm right in saying that the materials it's made from are not mentioned at all.The face is made from a very solid compressed card-like material, with the design laminated onto the surface. On the rear is a plain white laminate upon which the standard battery-driven clock mechanism is mounted, powered by one AA battery. The clock has no glass covering the face so the hand is unprotected, and the clock is not suitable for outdoor use.I really like this tide clock and have summed up my feelings about it in the title to this review - clear, colourful, useful and fun.

Tide clocks work by using a mechanism which take 12h 25m to rotate the hand a full circle (from one high tide to the next). However, having set my clock as recommended (at hide tide on a full moon) the clock is only accurate to about +/- 1 hour each high/low tide. This is likely not to be a problem with the clock, but due to other influences on the timing of the tides, such as the wind. My clock has been running for some months so I can see that broadly it is correct. Nice clear face.

Colourfull, Easy to read and keeps good time providing you follow the set up instructions correctly. Useful.

It tells us about the tides but is not as good a quality as I expected.

I bought two of these tide clocks and both have proved to be very disappointing with regard to their accuracy. Over a period of two or three days they can be as much as 3 hours out and there doesn't seem to be any form of adjustment to rectify the problem. They have now been reset at least four times, with no improvement at all in predicting the tides. Nice to look at, but pretty much useless at doing the task it's intended for.

Good product - prefer to expensive brass ones

This is an attractive but poorly made product. Firstly the battery holder is a very tight fit, requiring so much physical force to insert the AA battery that I feared the plastic would crack. Secondly the mechanism can easily revolve around behind the face, making setting the tide and hanging the clock tricky. I solved this by removing the mechanism then re-fixing it in place with double sided adhesive foam pads. This solution has worked well but should be undertaken by the manufacturer not the consumer.

Works right out of the box. Registers the tides perfectly. Makes a great gift for someone living on the coast.

It keeps perfect tide time, just not for the Gulf of Mexico.Other than that it works just fine.

Thick cardboard face with no cover. Hung it on the wall indoors and it seems to be pretty accurate.
