Brave story, fantastically written
This book took stones to write. Sullivan takes the hoary, clichéd tale of race in the LAPD, and turns it into a story of police corruption and of the sheer stretchiness of power. Being racist was what it took to gain and retain power in Ye Olden Days, and so that was what was done. And when being antiracist became what was needed, that was what was done. It's like a Golden Age police procedural in many ways, with complex characters, no real good guys - and it really does go All The Way To The Top.Oddly enough, this would be the perfect companion to Piu (sp?) Eatwell's book on the Black Dahlia. They compliment each other, often feature the same characters, and explain what set the stage for what was to come, and what happened after the publicity from the Dahlia died down.

Great Book with Insight into the LAPD!
This book goes into a lot of details regarding the LAPD, gives you insight into the hierarchy and the corruption prior to the killing of Tupac. It's written by a detective that worked there who doesn't hold back on details that have always been covered up by the department. I really enjoyed this book. It's shocking to hear first-hand from a insider how one of the biggest police departments in the Country is ran. It goes into great detail how officers are caught up with hip-hop/rappers and gang culture. He explains how officers actually work with and for the criminal element to supplement their incomes and how they end up being criminals themselves. This book isn't just about the murder of Tupac, but it gives prospective into the mindset of some of those from top to the beat cops. Its a fascinating read.

A must read for Tupac/Death Row Records fans
Great book! I've wanted to read this book for a long time but could never get my hands on a physical copy. Really interesting if you're a Tupac/DRR fan. Had me hooked start to finish. Brilliant read.

Great Book, Very Interesting Read
I have read a few books on this subject before, but this gets into so much information not only about the Biggie/2Pac murders but about LAPD as well. Working myself for a small department local to LA, this hit home. I found it very interesting and would recommend it to anyone wanting a good read that is nonfictional (true). It really gives a good insight on what happened during the whole Rafael Perez era in combination with Death Row Records. You learn way more about how they are tied together vs what the media only tells you. Excellent, excellent read.
