Specially updated to integrate with OWL (Online Web Learning) and its accompanying integrated eBook, this Enhanced Edition of Steven S. Zumdahl's market-leading CHEMICAL PRINCIPLES, SIXTH EDITION offers a qualitative-to-quantitative approach that helps students with solid mathematical preparation and prior exposure to chemistry learn to think like chemists. This edition's unique organization, strong emphasis on models, thoughtful, step-by-step approach, and focus on everyday applications work together to build the conceptual understanding students need to succeed in the course. Review: Phenomenal (For a STRONG chemistry student) - First of all i want to say that Zumdahl is fantastic. I love his work and his textbooks. Chemical principles is a rigorous and through college entry level chemistry textbook. It assumes a slight amount of previous knowledge of the material, but even without it, a mind designed for chemistry would have no problem learning from this textbook. I find that many people are complaining about its difficulty because of the subject matter, not the book itself. This is not Zumdahl's chemistry, it is Chemical Principles, an honors level textbook. It is much more quantitative and shows many more derivations than his other textbooks, which for someone like me (a physics major) is absolutely what I look for in a textbook. Bravo Zumdahl. Review: Decent!! - It is worth the money. However, it does not provide solutions to all the problems. But it came handy to me because the solutions are explained in detail.

Good service-feeling sorry for whoever has to use this book
This product was just as described by the seller. Perfect condition, no writing, water marks, or tears. The actual book though, I feel sorry for anyone who's professor is using this book. Other Chemistry books break down the information so it isn't an overload. This book crams three and four topics in one chapter which makes it really hard to absorb all the necessary info.

Just What I needed
I won't lie, I've been bumbling my way through chemistry for a semester and a half. I'm pretty sure I've been nailing the concepts of what's happening, but the practical approaches and problem solving techniques have been getting me in trouble (my exam scores will testify to this assessment). The answers provided in this solutions manual have really helped me understand where my number crunching has come off the rails. This has solutions to pretty much all of the odd-numbered problems. The explanations are concise but still provide enough detail for me to backtrack when I've made a mistake. I just wish I'd picked this up earlier...

Badly worded, poorly phrased.
This book was used for my honors chemistry course at my university. For what reason, I don't know. Let me just start of with the positives, although there's not that many. . . PROS - The end-of-chapter problems are challenging. If you're the type that likes to master a topic, these problems are perfect for you. - Zumdahl highlights the most important equations for you. This will save you unnecessary hand action. Yup, that's it. CONS - BADLY WRITTEN. Almost every sentence is wordy; this detracts from the subject matter. - It takes Zumdahl forever to get to the point; in fact, sometimes he never even gets there, any way. He'll start with some unneeded drawn-out example, and he'll just continue talking about it without stating a fact explicitly. For example: Freezing point depression and boiling point elevation are colligative properties. That is, they depend on the quantity, not identity, of the solute particles in solution. Yeah, well, Zumdahl will never flat-out say something like that. He'll give you 3-paragraph-long examples about it, without finishing up with a nice sentence to conclude the damn thing. I don't know about you, but I like to have examples AND proper explanations in my textbooks. - The sample problems in the chapters aren't adept at explaining how they got the answer. They're just filled with some equations, some random numbers, then BAM he skips, like, 3 steps, and ends up with a final answer. Difficult to follow! - Too many derivations. They're just annoying. I haven't heard of any introductory chemistry course that tests its students in HOW they found the gas laws, etc. There's probably a total of 30 pages worth of derivations that I always skip over. Waste of space. Now maybe you're an overachiever and actually like to read these, but you'll still find yourself lost. Again, this book is unclear. - If you're into self-learning because you can never get your highney to morning lecture like I do, don't buy this book. I LOVE to self-learn, and I learn a lot from what I read/write, and this book hasn't taught me anything at all. Now, if you're looking for a really engaging, well-written general chemistry textbook, I recommend the following: Chemistry: The Central Science with MasteringChemistryยฎ (12th Edition) . This textbook literally has taught me 70% of what I know about chemistry. Although its end-of-chapter problems are not as challenging, the chapter readings AND sample problems are awesome! I still read this book to catch up on topics I'm having trouble with. Going back to Chemical Principles: just don't buy it. Even if your course requires it, DON'T BUY IT! The kickass problems just aren't worth it, and neither are the hours you'll spend sifting for true meaning amidst piles of words.

B&W. No color illustrations.
The copy / print out is black-and-white. I was expecting an unbound color copy of the book. There are many places in the text where color is important, and I'm obliged to guess. I might well have purchased it anyway, given the convenience of the loose-leaf format and the commendable price....

A good overall chemistry textbook
A good clear introductory chemistry textbook. Clear examples and color pictures and diagrams, the text is easy to read and the concepts are well explained and the author has a good style of building on one topic from another instead of it feeling like everything was written as a stand-alone section to the textbook. Answers to roughly half the practice questions at the end of each chapter are given (only the answers though, no explanations!).

Basic Chemistry
Good book. I would not consider myself good at chem, but the book was very helpful. It came before my classes started and was in new condition.
