Enjoyable companion to the original
I was sceptical about this album and waited for a while before adding to basket but, i'm glad I did. There were some very interesting versions and remixes. I loved McCartney III anyway but this still stands on it's own for me

For hardcore fans only and, even then, this is a very mixed bag
McCartney III was Macca's most successful solo album for years, in terms of chart position. Cynics could point to the amount of editions of it that were offered to his fanatical followers who snapped up the limited edition multi-coloured vinyl like hot cakes. Many fans simply say that it's a really great album and deserved the number one spot on its own merits. Personally, while I found McCartney III to be enjoyable in places, compared with his very best material it is an undoubtedly patchy album, albeit with a lot of McCartney charm. The original McCartney III album divided opinions, and I'm afraid that this McCartney III Imagined remix/covers album is even more divisive, as it allows a host of contemporary musicians to put their mark on Paul's most recent release. You may ask me, if you weren't that impressed with McCartney III, then why did you buy this one? Well, firstly, I've got every other album Paul McCartney has released, so I'm not about to stop now and, secondly, I've got a very broad musical palate and was interested to hear what artists such as Phoebe Bridgers and Damon Albarn would do with the source material. I'd already heard the Beck-infused Find My Way and had quite enjoyed that, so figured it was worth a go and, besides, perhaps they could even make some of the songs even better? My thoughts:1. Find My Way (ft. Beck) – I very much like this; it's a quality remix of the song and, with the added beats, I actually prefer it to the original.2. The Kiss Of Venus (Dominic Fike) – Honestly, never heard of Dominic before, but genuinely think this is terrible. Weak and lacking substance.3. Pretty Boys (feat. Khruangbin) – Very unremarkable and adds little to the source material.4. Women & Wives (St. Vincent remix) – Absolutely love this one! St. Vincent adds a classy, sultry trip-hop vibe to the song and elevates it beyond the original material.5. Deep Down (Blood Orange remix) – Listenable, but nothing special at all.6. Seize The Day (feat. Phoebe Bridgers) – Nice, breezy version, but not a patch on the Macca original which, for me, is one of the standout tracks on McCartney III.7. Slidin' (EOB remix) – Sadly, I think it loses the raw power of the original (again, one of my favourite cuts on McCartney III), but it's certainly not awful.8. Long Tailed Winter Bird (Damon Albarn Remix) – Really not impressed and was hoping from a lot more from Damon, as I generally rate him highly as an artist.9. Lavatory Lil (Josh Homme) – I'm a big QOTSA and Josh Homme fan, but even he can't make such a turgid song shine, try as he may.10. When Winter Comes (Anderson .Paak Remix) - One of my favourite songs on the original McCartney III album, but this artificial sheen given to it by the remix manages to sabotage the humble charm of the original.11. Deep Deep Feeling (3D RDN Remix) - I really like the Temporary Secretary influenced synths, but other than that it's not an improvement on the original.12. Long Tailed Winter Bird (Idris Elba Remix) - Dull, dull, dull.All-in-all, this is an overwhelmingly ordinary release that would have perhaps been best re-released as a bonus disc to the original album rather than a standalone, full-priced album. I'm pleased to own a copy, however, just for the Beck, St. Vincent and Phoebe Bridgers cuts and the concept was an interesting one, despite the mixed results of the execution. I can't see McCartney III Imagined persuading any doubters of the original album that they should give it another hearing; other than St. Vincent nobody here has really discovered hidden depths to any of the McCartney III tracks and forced the listener to hear it in a different light, something that really good covers should do. This album is very listenable in places, but I very much prefer the original Paul McCartney release and, as I said, for me it's not one of his best. It's still better than Kisses On The Bottom, though.

Misleading
When I purchased this I was under the impression from the CD image, that it was Paul McCartney CD, with Paul Singing the songs. Not until I received it today did I see it it was NOT the case. alternative singers. Very misleading cover design .It seems according to corporate copyright law this is a CD 'posing as a Paul McCartney CD' - I have no problem with others "personally curated by Paul" and probably would have bought this CD as a fan of Paul McCartney, but this is slightly misleading.I did notive that my price for it has altered sxeveral times. I feel slightly 'duped.' lfw

No more lonely Nights
A belated physical release of the album, which takes a little bit of the sheen off & I think in years to come “III Imagined” will be viewed as one of those lockdown albums. As with a lot of these kinda tribute albums it a mixed bag of quality, highlights for me are Dominic Fike joyfully Beatlesque version of“The Kiss of Venus”. Phoebe Bridgers’ angelic vocals make “Seize the Day” pretty life affirming. EBO gives “Slidin’ ” a raucous makeover & 3D (of Massive Attack fame) gives a nod to McCartney’s "Temporary Secretary” with his mix of “Deep Deep Feeling”.It a shame the artist involved in this project were not give carte blanche with McCartney’s entire back catalogue, I would have paid good money to hear a dub version of “Mull of Kintyre”.So some interesting interpretations of McCartney’s music by contemporary artists (there was a time when McCartney was more interested in having hit singles than moving away from his musical comfort zone), but I don’t feel I will be playing the album that often.
