and should read something like "How to read East Coast Scottish Buildings"
The title is misleading, and should read something like "How to read East Coast Scottish Buildings". Because it's no much help if your stamping ground happens to be West coast, and includes architecturally-celebrated Glasgow. Perversely, the only three Glasgow buildings that feature in the many excellent illustrations are Glasgow Cathedral, plus the MacIntosh Art School, and the Macintosh designed House for an Art Lover. Perversely, because the foreword to the book goes out of its way to say it'll not concern itself especially with cathedrals or with the work of big name architects. What you do get is in its limited way well done and useful to those driving out from Edinburgh or Perth for a day trip. Good help in identifying decorative exterior features and finishes you might encounter in, say, Peebles or Musselburgh or Portobello. And seems very comprehensive on Aberdeenshire too.But it would be as good if not better as a website.

Useful primer
Useful book for trends and developments. Obviously it’s not a full academic study but will acquaint you quickly with Scottish building characteristics which can be pretty different from the rest of the UK

Very informative!
My son is a Town Planner in Aberdeen so has an interest in buildings in general. Thought this book is excellent.
