The first few days the device worked well. After a week it started with a few random false alarms. We powered the device down, let it sit for a while, and restarted it.At first, we actually thought we had an alarm, but after 3 or 4 randomly during day and night, I took the device outside, powered it up, and waited. It went into alarm mode within a few minutes showing a 14 on the screen. yeah, no way, that there is 14% gas in the air outside in my driveway.Therefore I can only give one star.

No propane leaks to test yet, but I'm sure it works. Makes a great night-lite also.

The media could not be loaded. I had high hopes for this gas detector. I was going to put it near my hot water heater since the pilot would occasionally blow out during high winds. This would add peace of mind if the pilot went out and the shutoff didn't kick in and natural gas kept flowing. I watched the videos and noted the difference in where to locate this relative to likely leak points. Before mounting though I tested nearby my gas stove. I took a short video, and yes it's a small snapshot of a broader set of trials, but what I noticed were the following: (1) I can smell gas before this sensor triggered, (2) my portable gas detector detected gas before this sensor and (3) eventually this sensor triggered the alarm, but only after much delay and after the target gas concentration was reached. So, does it work? Yes, but not with the reaction time I expected (nor wanted). Could it work mounted near the hot water heater? Yes, but seems my nose will pick up the gas odor before I ever hear the alarm triggered. If this lag is not as important for you, this will be ok. For me however, it doesn't really fit the need since my nose will likely alarm me before the sensor could.

This item arrived in good condition and it's very easy to install, just attach the base to the wall, and plug. When you plug it in for the first time, the alarm shows a high number and then it slowly comes down to zero. I am not sure about it's efficacy. It's one of those things you can't easily test (and hope you'll never hear an alarm for). I have a gas stove and decided to let a bit of gas out to see if it would beep (I kept it at the recommended height/distance), but it didn't beep and the numbers did not change. It's possible that the levels were not high enough and I wasn't about to inundate my house with gas. I still feel safe to have it and hope it will work in case of an emergencyIt has a nice design and looks nice on the wall.

Started randomly going off, thought something was going on with my gas, had someone come out and test they found no problems. Tried unplugging and plugging back in but just randomly goes off, so works about 5 months.

Natural gas makes me nervous (I'd rather have everything electric in our home) so I've been looking for a detector for our basement where the hot water heater and furnace are located. This thing started going off one day, but there was no gas leak. I don't need that kind of stress in my life. :/

Natural gas and CO2 are silent killers. Sometimes you won't even notice a smell if you have a leak. And leaks are super deadly. This monitor is a nice peace of mind with a clear,large and easy to read display. It will let you know of there is am unsafe amount of deadly gas in your home with an alarm that sounds. Great protection for your family. Works very well, I definitely recommend this product.
