Works well!
This product seems to work just fine. No frills, just a reliable tool to have around. If you have a hard drive lying around or somebody hands you one, you can use this to test them outbefore you even install them in your PC or notebook. The package comes with all the cables as wellas a power supply to plug your hard disk drive thru a USB connection on your PC. In fact, because ithas it's own power supply, you can use your disk drive as a USB flash drive. It does what it issupposed to do. It is a very handy tool to have around.

Works perfectly!
This item worked very well as intended. A couple of important notes to avoid disappointment:1 - In case it is not otherwise obvious, this item does not include a case to make it useful as an external hard drive. It is perfect for temporarily connecting a hard drive for moving data from a hard drive out of a different computer. I used it to retrieve some documents from a laptop I have not used since 2004.2 - A hard drive connected with this adapter may not be hot pluggable - it might be necessary to connect this item while your computer is turned off in order for the drive to be functional when the computer is turned on. Likewise, the computer should be shut down prior to unplugging. I suspect this is a problem others have had that left less favorable reviews.

It works!
As I had hoped, this seems to be the same as one of the more expensive models on here, just less polished looking. Have only used it for 44-pin ide so far and it's working great.

Works to unlock a hard drive
I spent a day trying to figure out why I could not unlock a drive sending ATA commands with another USB 3 to SATA adapter. It was one from EYOOLD, in case you need to know. After reading around, it turns out that a lot of USB to SATA adapters do not fully support all ATA commands. This one does and was able to unlock a hard drive.Cannot speak about the power supply as I used another better quality cable that I had, my main purpose for this unit was the USB adapter and for that it works. It is a little cheap feeling but so far so good.

Useless, Damaging Product
I have two internal drives I took out of an older desktop computer. The drives worked fine. I have two Laptops that both have isses with the CD drives. I bought this product and it worked four or five times then no power to either drive. I aw they had upgraded the power supply so I bought the whole kit again. This time one drive opened up once then nothing. The other drive smelled like it was being burned up. This product should not be allowed on Amazon, it is a complete rip-off.

The cheapest way to read an old hard drive, but it's a pain.
While this is the cheapest way if you need to get some files from an old hard drive with an IDE connection, it does have some drawbacks. This comes as 5 different pieces with a one "page" "manual" that was basically a quarter sheet of paper with very not helpful info and no pictures. It takes some common sense and possibly a little bit of fooling around and/or googling stuff to figure out how to hook everything up. That's inconvenient, but no big deal. There are a couple real issues though. The biggest one is that the 4- pin power to SATA cable is such poor quality it'll break on you almost instantly, even when using great care. I had to cut the plastic end off and insert the pins manually, which didn't feel too safe. Then, the crazy short length of cords they give you is just silly. I needed an extension cord for power, and I had to stack up some books in front of my PC because the hard drive cord was so short it wouldn't reach the tabletop OR the top of the computer. I still would rather deal with these issues than pay any more than 20 bucks for a better one though, so I'll give it 3 stars for being the cheapest one.
