Top of the heap
Have tried figure drawing books from well over 75 different authors. My favorite source is the Italian team of Lolli, Zocchetta, and Peretti with their 'Struttura Uomo' series; God didn't make Man from a lump of clay, He hired these guys! An engineer's or architect's approach to the greatest construct of all.But their work is too complex to start with, and I never felt in possession of an optimum guide to fundamental figure drawing skill.I do now.The rule is - trust European guys with 3 Ls in their last name and a 4th in the first; to wit, Alberto Lolli and, now, Michel Lauricella.'Morphology' is the study of form and structure. Michel conveys HOW to build and carve out a body - on paper - with drawings that drill in the importance of repeating, so grasping, his deeply perceptive schematics. I'm concocting detailed figures from my mind better off his books than from any - any! - of the others. The simplicity and liveliness of his lines feel very akin to the Lolli team's works, as I grow more fluent in this approach. His style reminds me of several other teachers I've tried - Bridgman, Hampton, Vilppu - and in fact Michel used these resources in developing this book... and surpassing theirs.Three major bonuses: This book is petite - 4 11/16 x 7" - making it very handy. The unusual binding allows it to lie comfortably flat for reference during early stages of drawing. His more advanced instructional book will soon be available in English: Longer and more comprehensive, and larger but still handy. But no hurry for me, have plenty to work with here.

My favorite anatomy "field guide"
This is definitely my favorite contemporary reference for human anatomy. I've collected all the other top-rated anatomy books and this one is not only pocket size (estimating around 7" x 4"), but its layout and content is perfect for quick cross-checking when working on personal illustrations or even observational works.

Very helpful
Broken down into very digestible shapes to create any part of the anatomy. Great for a novice and an experienced artist

Great anatomy for artists book that is also easy to carry around.
This is an amazing little book an anatomy for artists! Think pocket-sized version of "Michael Hampton". The pages are jam-packed full of anatomy constructed from the underlying solids which you can copy for study. It's a very handy book that you can easily carry around, so you can be doing your anatomy studies anywhere. The binding of the book is interesting. I think it is saddle-stitch-bound, and it works well because the pages open up flat. This book is an absolute treasure!
