Titanic [VHS]

Does it still hold up?
I thought we owned a blu ray copy of the movie and got the family ready for a movie night to view the classic. However it turned out to be a DVD that only played in poor resolution surrounded by black banners on our 4K TV set. So, I had no choice than to add the HD copy to our Amazon library. I'm actually glad we bought it as the Prime version was very sharp doing proper justice to James Cameron's visual spectacle. This huge movie from the 90's is almost as old as the ship itself. You'll get a straightforward, but entertaining storyline with a predictable ending. But very nice visuals and cinematics. Of course you'll have to endure the horrendous Celine Dion theme song that whined through our radio's for months in the 90's. Also I found that most of the main characters come across a a bit as caricatures, Billy Zane in particular. The CGI remains impressive, though you also got several very clinical scenes of the boat and harbour, while in reality is must have been a coal-dust covered place. The 'modern day ' 90's scenes looks from an other era as well. And there is some rough language by the exploration crew that would be used more selectively in modern movies /series.Our 9-year old Daughter was fascinated by the love story, while the young Leo melted the missus. The love scenes were not too explicit for our daughter so she could to see it without much problem, unless you are offended by female nudity in a drawing. She has read a children's educational book abbot the Titanic recently, so she was familiar with the basic facts about the disaster. For her it was good so see the clear the distinction between the classes from that age.I may have seen it up to 5 times since its original release. Though not for the past 15 years. But must say that I found it very pleasant to see it again with the family . It left me very much entertained and in awe again.

Still Brilliant!
This is one of those Epic films I ha to buy again. I first saw it at the old ODEAN cinema when it first was shown and loved it and owned the VHS when they were around, 12.99!Now I bought it again as I like watching the actual special effects, you don't seem to appreciate the efforts of making this film until you see it again. I admit, the love story between Jack and Rose (Leonardo dicaprio an Kate Winslet) still can get a tad irritating as the rest of the character. Not their fault as the film is mostly to do with the actual Iceberg incident.I hadn't realised how cheesy the storylines were even though with a good cast like Billy Zane (played a American medic in Memphis Belle very good film) and found odd how bad an ass he was he didn't die, unlike poor Jack who freezes to death at the very end, making sure that Rose survives by floating on a raft. I have to admit the efforts made into this film are very good even though it is an old film now. The only odd thing about the ship itself, how come nobody claimed to say 'ANYONE ELSE SUFFER SEA SICKNESS?? I know I do!There are no real extras on this copy of the DVD there is a special edition which is a bit more money only this is worth keeping. There are delete scenes on the other special edition DVD and a scene that would have been good included the Captain of the Titanic shouting back for some of the boats to return but none did, very sad really as so many lives could have been saved. I have no idea how I would have handled being in such a terrifying position. When water invades anything it destroys things so quickly and yes, we were led to believe that Titanic was indeed 'unsinkable' but alas she did, not before splitting in half.If you haven't see this then it's good just for special effects but like me, I just wanted to own the film so I could watch it without any annoying adverts you get on FilmFour.

2012 Upgraded version has excellent picture quality
**Spoiler Alert**Did anyone else find Rose annoying at the end of the film? She saves Jack from drowning in the master at arms cabin, so that she can watch him drown through her own selfishness. Three times she could have got safety into a lifeboat but no. Then she she sees fit to hog the solitary piece of wreckage large enough to save someone. I will never let go Jack, she says as she lets go and watches him drop to the bottom of the ocean. As for throwing the diamond into the sea at the end. What was she thinking! Really. As a point of interest, all of the White Star Line crew were only paid wages up until the hour that the ship sunk. Good to see most large corporations haven't changed that much in 100 years.

BE CAREFUL
I ordered the £4, 2 discs, thinking that the movie would be on 1 disc, special features on the other. OH, NO NO NO! You've got the movie in half! Up until the sinking right after the "You ll get your headlines Mr Ismay," and then boom. Insert disc too. That is ridiculous unless this is just how it was done for dvds back on 03? I don't know. either way. Just be careful what version your buying so you dont have to buy the dvd again to have the film together.

3D is superb!
I've seen this film:In the 2d cinema. On VHS.On DVD.On 2d blu-ray.On 3d blu-ray.The 3d version is by far best and the post-conversion quality is utterly astonishing. I defy anyone to not think this is native 3d ... the processing power required to achieve the perfect 3rd dimension is mind-blowing!If you have a 3d tv (especially an oled) and have any regard for this film then buy this 3d version.
