The Fantastic Star Master deploys projector techniques to show you the entire universe on your ceiling. Using just this and 3 AA batteries, you can enjoy an entire night under the stars. The star images are pre-installed and it shows approximately ten thousand stars. The colorful lights are combined with red, green and blue, with the main bulb being used to create the starlight. The constellations will even change slightly according to the time, making it a constantly entertaining gadget.

Broke
Seems quite cheap, bought as a present for a family members child. Nice idea but not sure if manufacturers pulled it off.

some assembly required
I thought this was a great price, that was until I installed the batters to turn it on. Nothing happened by the way. I'm not one to give up so easily, So I unscrewed the bottom ans found what looked to be 28 gauge wire(really fine thin wires). The wires that been soldered the LED leads and light bulb had come unsoldered. The base that held the LEDs and light bulb in place, itself was not in place. The only good things were the wires going to the Battery box, LED's [on button] and the light bulb [on button] where still soldered and making good contact.I got out the soldering gun, wet sponge, solder, wire strippers and super glue. First I stripped back enough wire so that I had something to work with and to solder. Two wire leads and about 8 beads of solder per lead and the lights where working. I glued the base back in place and screwed the bottom back together. The star-field jell I glued to the ring that "sort of" snaps on the top. All told took me 15 minutes and it was up and running.Whats so bad is all I should have had to do was just stick in battery's! What is going to happen if a mother gets this for her child and their Star Master is like mine? Will she know how to solder the bloody thing back together? She shouldn't need to know that, the thing should just work!Save your money and time look elsewhere this thing is poorly made and defective. What every happened to pride of build and quality?

Very Cool but Very Cheap
This is a very simple, very cool star viewer. There is not much too it, which is why it is super cheap. It really does create a pretty spectacular star effect. However, because it is made so cheap expect to have to deal with a couple more costs. In order to keep the cost down the manufacturer has obviously used the cheapest bulb available for the main star bulb. As most of the reviewers have said, it will usually only last a few hours and then it needs to be replaced. There are places on line that you can get replacement bulbs for less than a $1 so that's not that big of a deal. I did buy a white led and soldered it to the lamp housing to see if it would work. Unfortunately, most leds are uni-directional. It limited the the star field to the ceiling which isn't as cool. I'm looking into other types of led's. For now however, I ordered about ten bulbs on line that are rated for 300 hours. Also, the unit does NOT come with a power supply. You need to use 3 AA batteries. I purchased a 4.5 VDC power supply on line and will use it with a timer to save some batteries. If the manufacturer would change the following things this would be a much better unit:1. Include 2-3 better quality replacement bulbs2. Include a power supply3. Maybe, make the unit a globe instead of a cylinder. It would be better if there wasn't the separation between the top and side.I realize this would make the unit more expensive. I would have paid an extra $10-15 to make this unit a little more dependable. I'm sure most people would. All in all, great unit, but a little ingenuity is needed to make it worth while. I'm thinking of making my own unit using the above three points and selling it on Amazon!

I really wanted this to work.
The price is great. The concept is great. I have no problem with the quality of the projected bits of light looking like actual stars or not. My almost 4yo daughter loved this product.Unfortunately, it did not work for very long. The 1st one didn't work properly when I initially got it. The company was very nice about it and sent a second one right away. The second one worked perfectly... for less than 2 weeks. I then contacted the vendor again and was told that they were shipping out TWO more of the units. This third shipment took a very long time to arrive and in fact only showed up after more requests/queries from me. This unit worked for another couple weeks before it partially stopped working and today, has stopped working completely. My daughter is very upset.I wish this product would at least work as poorly as most of the poor reviews here. Such a bummer

For $5 - THIS IS A FANTASTIC SOOTHING NIGHT LITE SHOW!
I looked everywhere for a "star projecting" night lite for my 20+ daughter. Even after all the bad reviews, this one looked like it would fit the bill - so, what the heck - it was only $5 (including prime shipping!)And it turned out to be one of the best Xmas gifts she got this year. It is NOT an exact replica of the night sky with actual stars (what do you want for this much money???) But it is a beautiful light-show that changes slowly and mesmerizingly to sooth you into falling asleep. It can be switched from just all white to multi-colors too! Pretty darn cool little thing! THANKS!

Its cool but the it was shipped was horrible
I received this today, I bought this for my youngest son along with some other space items! At first receiving it I must admit I was very ticked off the reason being is that they shipped it in a bag with no protection whatsoever! When I opened it the box was smashed and at that point I thought it was broken! For what I paid for shipping I expected it to be taking care of a little better than that! When I opened it I was not very impressed until I put batteries in it! For what I paid I think this is the coolest little thing ever! It puts starts all over the ceiling and wall and also gives you the option to put colors in there by the push of a button! Shipping sucked but the product over all is awesome! MY son is going to love it!

Very cheaply made.
My aunt bought this for my kids and I think she paid way too much for it. The top is a very flimsy material that is not securely placed on there. It accidentally falls out all the time and you have to be very careful with handling it. The lights are okay and the kids seemed to have enjoyed having it on in their bedroom at night before they went to bed.Another thing is that it didn't come with a connector for the wall outlet. It says specifically that it comes with one in the description and has a place on the projector to plug it in to but it didn't come with it. It eats away at batteries quickly. In my opinion it's definitely over-priced and not worth it. Maybe if it were $5.

Looks cool but doesn't rotate and mine came without button cap
In a nutshell, with the 3 batteries, it actually is bright enough in a dark room and looks cool. However, mine came damaged. The top plastic disc and ring were off and one of the two black switch button caps is gone so it's just a white exposed button. It also doesn't rotate as apparently it was designed to. Perhaps that's for a more expensive model like Universe Master? Who knows - in the end, meh - it does seem cool but I still have to give it a week and see if it blows up, etc... :D

Beautiful for 1 second, cheated!
Did not come with adapter! Turned the LCD part on and the green and red came on which was beautiful then I turned the stars on and all the lights died! I have one little red light that comes on.... would have been beautiful, if it had worked! I am so upset because this was suppose to be for my kids room! Will not by from these people again. They didn't have any wrap in the box and it came scratched with fingerprints all over it! I am extremely upset!!!! Never again!

Trying it again
Put this purchase into perspective, it costs $5.00. When I got the Star Master, it is rather small, and other descriptions are pretty accurate in that it is a large can painted black with a lens of sort and cheap cap. The strange part for me is that it is battery run, but also has an AC adapter port, but no wiring to plug in? Another issue is the box was purely in an Asian language, which is fine if you speak that language, but there were no instructions to explain the buttons, adapater needs, set up, etc. When first used, there was a really cool 1 minute worth of lighting till the bulbs all blew out and smoke came out of it. The nice side effect was the house smelled like olives. The Star Master was taken out of commission after this incident, but the company was nice enough to refund my money. But I go back to my first statement, it was only $5.00.

Not exactly a "Star Master"
I bought this as an inexpensive Dirty Santa gift. It's pretty cheaply made; one of the buttons falls off if you press it too hard. And, to be clear, this doen't project "stars" or even the semblance thereof. It's mostly just blobs of light. But, it actually looks pretty cool in a small dark room. For $5, you can't ask for much more than that! I'm not dissapointed.Afterthought: If you're technically inclined, I would recommend replacing the stock bulb with an LED bulb. I think it would light up a lot brighter.

A cheap thrill
A cheap thrill. Not sure how long it will last but it is a gift for an 8 year old so I really just need it to last long enough for him to lose interest in it. It's overly obvious that the toy was made and packaged in China and the quality is very cheap. The old saying "you get what you paid for" definitely applies here, but like I said it's a gift for an 8 year old and anyone who has kids knows that they play with something so intently for a few hours maybe if you're lucky a few days and then they become bored and abandon it then move on to something else. I didn't expect a whole lot since I didn't pay much for it but I would have been super happy if it came with an ac adaptor. Other than that I'm pretty happy.

The kids love it!!
It works as described; just put in batteries or get an adapter(which is not included). Turn it on and there it is. It looks more like circles but is colorful. The material is like any other toy; made to be replaced. I recommend that you use it in a small room that is where it would be most effective. A bigger room you may want to buy two. I bought it for a 10 yr. old and she loves it and she is always showing her friends who like it too. They also want one!! Its great to start out with and inexpensive.

Cute, but already broken (2 uses)
This item was very flimsy and fell apart as I unpacked it. So I carefully reassembled the light and loaded batteries and set it in the baby's room. Within an hour the batteries were dead. The next night I connected a 5 volt power supply to the DC input jack. By the next morning the unit was dead. The power supply is still good. But to only get a few hours before becoming junk was disappointing.

Ordered two both of them not working
Both device came on for about two minutes which it was very pretty and fun but blew out. I was really looking forward to using this at my Black and White Themed Party but they where a waste of money. I am wondering if I should just take a lost because I live in the USVI and by the time I ship them back it will not even be worth the shipping cost. I am very disappointed!

I wouldn't consider this an educational item either if you're looking for a good replica of the night sky
This is a cheap product (hence the price). It's too delicate for kids to handle. It's still enjoyable for a little ambiance. I wouldn't consider this an educational item either if you're looking for a good replica of the night sky.
