Complete Guide To Treadle Sewing Machines

I gave this book to my 22 y/o along with a treadle sewing machine for Christmas. My husband and I looked through it while restoring the machine and it had some really good tips we used. She’s been referencing it as she gets used to the “less modern” machine she has in her room.

I bought it to help me understand my new 1885 Davis Vertical Feed treadle sewing machine. It was very helpful.

There was extensive information on what chemicals to use to clean, what NOT to touch or do, but a very small part about actually USING the treadle, or how to. There was basic instruction so that's good. Worth the price. Would purchase again.

Helped me know what to use to clean my new to me vintage sewing machine since there was no manual with it. There is a section that teaches you how to correctly treadle (proper technique).

Our Improved Faultless machine is not like any in the book. Ok for general info or Singer machine. Our machine threads differently, needle orientation is different, shuttle is different from anything in the book. My Great Grandmother bought the machine new in 1904 in central Texas so I wouldn’t expect it to be rare - I’m pretty much on my own except that my 87 yr old mother remembers some things about her Grandmother’s machine. Apparently the machines either didn’t survive or were not manufactured very long.

If you want to keep a collectors piece in good condition this is really the thing to have. It also gave instruction on using some accessories I had no idea how to use! Got the paperback as I feel this book belongs with the machine, not in a computer.
