Morgantown (Then & Now) Paperback – Illustrated, 28 November 2011

This book arrived this week, and I carefully went through it 2 or 3 times already. My husband loves it too. It is GREAT. I have a collection of anything and everything Morgantown picture books. This is the latest to add to my collection. I hesitated ordering it, as at first it looked too similar to the other Arcadia book on Morgantown area that I purchased a while ago. This is unique--this has a lot of pictures I have never seen before. The author did a wonderful job assembling this book. Like so many towns and cities, there are so many buildings and sites in this book that no longer exist--torn down many years ago. I'm a history buff, and a Monongalia County (Morgantown area) history buff. I'm sorry I never got to see the beautiful Presbyterian Church that was on High Street on a large corner lot. It was huge and looked so fine. I cannot believe they tore it all down to make an ugly post office/federal building, that the post office later abandoned. (The newer building on that site is being repurposed by the City.) I hope the author can put another book together about Monongalia County--like businesses and restaurants and parks (Riverside Park) that aren't there anymore. Lets hope Arcadia will publish more books on our beautiful area here with the Monongahela and Cheat rivers history.

Lots of good, never published photographs and facts about Morgantown, W.Va.

My husband and I bought this book for his mother, who was raised in Morgantown - and she simply loves it! She even recognized one of the people in a photograph. Was a great Xmas present.

Highly recommend this. I moved away from Morgantown 30 years ago, loved seeing the changes in the city and architecture.
