Max out that old laptop to keep it usable.
Used these, and a $50 1 TB SSD, a $5 bluetooth dongle, and a $20 USB 3.0 card to kick an old laptop into overdrive. Upgrade to Windows 10 (originally came with Vista Ultimate) and you're off to the races.This doesn't seem like a big deal, but you need 4GB to BARELY run 64bit operating systems like Vista x64 and later, so 8GB is pretty solid. Makes my HP dv9500 actually run fairly well.Doesn't compare to my newest laptop, but the 8GB RAM and an SSD actually make it run reasonable. Quite impressed... plus saving an old laptop gives you a chance to play with things like a dual-boot set up, installing linux builds, etc.. or even using it for a security system or as a host for a network server for non-network printers/scanners. whatever... but you need ram and an SSD to make that old tech sing.
