One in three, three in one.
A fine selection of Meister Eckhart's writings, but not for the faint of heart. This is solid Christian stuff, about God, father, son and holy spirit, and about the symbols of the faith and its spiritual insights into the relation of man and God. Unless you have a pretty good idea about the tradition of the Christian faith you will quickly give up, but for those who persist, there are wonders here. He talks about the notion of God as a trinity of action not a dualism. I think of the 3 sided rotary Mazda engine - not the up and down, either/or, dualism, of the conventional engine! We know that God is one in trinity of persons, and the world is his creation/creatures. Eckhart talks much about the One in All in a lively way so that one, paradoxically, may see one in all. And this is but one his brilliant paradoxes which he tells us how to resolve.

Extremely deep understanding of the spiritual life
Still not finished. As good as it is, I can only read a chapter or two before needing a rest. Meister Eckhart seems to have an extremely deep understanding of the spiritual life. I keep wondering if he just reads this way or if he was not completely open about himself. In other worlds, is he a product of the university or of God? My belief in the latter keeps me reading. By the way, I don't think the translator really understands him (include me in that group) but I think very few would. Wish the author was alive today so I could ask some questions...

Very Enlightening
This is one of those books that you find yourself quoting a lot. This is such an inspirational book for those of us who were raised Catholic. It is hard to believe that these teachings could have come from a Dominican Monk in the Dark Ages of the Inquisition. It is interesting to note, that the Pope condemned his work, after he died. I'm glad that these writings survived the Inquisition so we could have them today. My favorite passage is, "The eye with which I see God, is the same eye with which he sees me." Just think about that for a moment. Kind of thought provoking, yes?

Great book
The book is very interesting way of thinking about God. However, it is dragged out in language and becomes very dry reading after a while. It has great insight as to who we are in God and how we should retain our relationship with him.

This mystical teaching is Spirit realization opening material at its finest
As my first introduction to Eckhart , I was very impressed with this book. This mystical teaching is Spirit realization opening material at its finest.. His emphasis on God as Oneness fits well with Buddhist thought. Although steeped in Christian language, it is non-duality teaching at its best. I would highly recommend it as one of the deepest spirituality teaching books out there.

When you begin unravelling his deep and profound wisdom it is contagious and rewarding.
My thoughts are that if you are going to start anywhere with Meister Eckhart then this is as good a place as any to begin your journey. Other books are few and far between and not all that easy to understand. The mystical vision of the German Meister Eckhart has engaged many thinkers from Hegel to Heidegger and many modern day spiritual teachers. Reading Meister Eckhart is challenging to say the very least and it would probably be wise to undertake it when you are already on a strong spiritual path, you need to have many key questions answered in order to begin engaging with Meister Eckhart. When you do begin unravelling his deep and profound wisdom it is contagious and rewarding.
