Excellent record of a nascent career
This book is, in a word, charming. The photos in this relatively slim volume show a young man who's both spontaneous yet absolutely conscious of the image he's trying to project; apparently his first real go at it after learning a few things from the great Lindsay Kemp. The editor found great pull quotes from Bowie and Kemp as well as from Mr. Fearnley to accompany the photos.Mr. Fearnley did a wonderful job with the shoots, and in the short essay that intros the book, comes off as incredibly humble. The photos look terrific for having been in storage for so many years! I've looked at it at least 3 times since I got it, and I've had it for less than a week.As for the book itself, it's well-bound, the semi-glossy paper feels good and thick, and the printing of the images themselves (majority B/W with a few colour ones) is excellent, very high-quality. It was obviously all assembled with great care.I only wish there had been more pictures, these are so compelling.

Who was the real David Bowie? Not David Bowie.
A lot of newer Bowie fans who cannot hang with his earlier Decca years miss out on the the biggest piece of the puzzle. This period of his life was the most natural, funny and honest of his main career. As he got older his sense of humour reverted back to this period and a few years before he died he revisited this part of his life, re-recorded a lot of the earlier songs, and re walked the same streets. The photograph on the front cover with the skewed Bowler hat says it all. It’s a homage to both Charlie Chaplin and buster Keaton. There’s been so many cash in books released over the last few years but only a couple like this are truly legitimate.

Lovely book with charming photographs
This is a beautifully constructed book containing thick pages and well-printed images.Bowie was quite a looker (unarguably) and these images of Bowie at age twenty are stunning! Most of the images are black and white; however, there are several colored photos which are charming to look at! Overall, I am very delighted to have this book and recommend it to all Bowie admirers.

For Dedicated Bowie Fans Only
Good quality book but a bit small and very expensive at the time of typing this review for what it is. It contains a selection of very early photos taken by the brother of one of Bowie's early band mates before Bowie became famous.Mainly just the pictures with VERY! little text, I had it read in literally 5 mins.Aimed purely at dedicated fans who will be interested in seeing very early signs of creativity from Bowie before he really hit the big time with what was to come. These pictures do show even at this early stage of Bowie's life the creative force that was about to be unleashed.Fascinating to see and own on one hand, yet another Bowie cash in on the other? You decide.

Gerald Fearnley - an outstanding photographer
Having purchased two photographs of Bowie by Gerald Fearnley I was overjoyed with this book. It shows Bowie when he was introduced to mime and a glimpse of what was to come in terms of make up. Gerald Fearnley is a brilliant photographer who captures both these aspects of David Bowie's early career, in an exquisite way. This book should please all true Bowie fans.
