The flow stop feature is fantastic. No water flow when connecting/disconnecting
I love the water flow stoppage feature. Now I don't have to go back to the hose bib to turn off the water when I want to change attachments to the hose. I can leave the water on and switch between attachments without having water spurting all over when making the switch. I wish I found this quick connect model earlier.

Nice Aluminum quick connects with an auto shut off valve
My mistake. I thought these were brass. I believe these are colored aluminum. I am having some trouble finding brass units with the integrated shutoff valve. The Female part connects to my existing male heavy brass connectors no problem. The male part does not seem to seal right with the various brand heavy brass female connectors I already have. The male plug part is slightly longer then all the standard ones I have from Nelson, Gilmour or Dramm (still made in USA) So I guess the Melnor male coupler goes to the metal recycling pile. The female coupling with the valve works fine though which was my main goal. The trick to getting this type of coupler system to work right is how tight you install the female coupler. Given decent washers, at the correct tightness the male plugs will and insert and remove without significant effort and not leak. With the female screwed too tight to the spigot or hose end the males will be hard to remove and install, too loose and they will leak. This is why it is important to have male pugs of exactly the same length so they easily interchange with undo effort or leakage. If you were going to have all Melnor aluminum connectors I am sure they would work fine together. Not a bad price for a female quick disconnect with an auto-shutoff valve.Jay

Didn't work until I modified it
Look at the photo closely. You'll see a brass circle in the center of the lower object, the female end. After screwing this female end onto the male end of my garden hose and starting a water flow, that brass circle moved forward, became a functioning plug and then prevented any water from flowing.Purchase this same Melnor quick connection at Home Depot or Lowes and you won't find the brass circle; it's completely open and ready to allow water to flow. The one I later purchased at Lowes did allow flow in either direction, but frankly, I'm not concerned about flow *into* the male end of a garden hose.It wasn't until I used needle-nose pliers to remove this piece of brass that this worked properly. This Amazon-sold system is clearly designed to block flow *into* the male end of a garden hose and does not allow flow *out* of the male end.If you have narrow nose pliers and the price is right for you, get this. Otherwise, go to Lowes or Home Depot.

Not as advertized
Not brass as it was described. Yet it still works well. You just can't disengage while the water pressure is on. It tends to blow the O-ring out that is supposed to seal the coupling. Even though it didn't work as I planned and it is aluminum instead of brass, so far it is still better than unscrewing the hose every time I change. Plus one advantage that I didn't think of, you can swivel the nozzle or tool that you have connected while the water is on. No more fighting the hose or putting excessive twists in it.

So far so good
So far this is working great. We have sooo many animals we need to get water to in winter. This is allowing us to unhook the hose quick and drain. We will see if it holds up and works ok through winter. We get down to -22 so only time will tell. But hoping it makes this winter just a tad easier.

bought 2 one great, the other leaks a bit
I bought two- one them them works perfectly- on the other the spring loaded side leaks when attached- seems like poor quality control- also, automatic shut-off is a good idea, but with the water pressure on, you cannot put the male and female together- and if you ARE strong enough to do it, you will get sprayed in the process.Still better than screwing/unscrewing hose pieces..
