Good value
This is a good value for this type of set. I really like that it comes with its own case so all the pieces stay together. If you’re looking for a value set that can just get the job done, this is a good option.

The "spare" set of stones are 4 inches, a nice option to have for larger bores
This is a nice set of hones, I'm switching to using these since the ball hones don't flatten slight warpage in the bores. Ball hones might give a nice cross hatch finish but these flat bar hones can make up for some irregularities in the bore itself. It may not help with all cases of the bore egging out. The finish left behind looks a little different than ball hones, but should be good enough to run with.No chips or defects in the stones as far as I can see. They use zip ties to keep the arms collapsed to fit them in the case, and they give you like 10 extra zip ties. I might just use some velcro cable straps once I use those up.Overall this can do all but the smallest bores, and I don't think I'll ever work on bores larger than the max size of this kit -- 7"!

Build quality is not up to what I was hoping for
I got this kit to try to refurbish an old lawn mower engine that got flooded in a storm, just as a project to learn how to rebuild a lawn mower, so if I screwed it up then no big loss. This kit had some nice sizes in it and some replacements for the 3" one. There are some build quality issues with some of the pieces so I am glad they will be used on something essentially disposable, but I have my doubts that they would be good for serious engine work where success was most important. I posted the following pics on this review for you to judge for yourself, as I am very inexperienced with these kinds of tools. The first pic is of the three replacement stones, which are not perfectly centered, and sit closer to the left side in the pic. I imagine that this will affect the contact areas at speed and wear unevenly or potentially put too much pressure against the cylinder wall. The next pic of the three smaller hones are to show that only the two 1 inch hones have replaceable head stones being attached by a cotter pin, and the two inch is riveted. The last pic is disconcerting as it appears that under compression, the spring is not applying even pressure on the bottom plate that pushes on the stone's arms, which can cause uneven wear, especially when set to press hard against the cylinder walls, but I suppose it depends on the amount of material being scraped from the walls too. Hopefully this was helpful in some way.

Great assortment of sizes for small to large bores
Got these to hone the cylinders in the engine from my old truck. They worked very well and will last many years.

Good But Not Great
This set is about as standard of a hone set as they get. The mechanism, attachments, etc... all work as they should. You can tighten it up fine, loosen it as needed, exchange stone as you would expect. The one star of comes from the stones themselves. Although they are fine stones........... they need to be dressed before use and they need a lot of dressing to get them right. I used a very flat table with a sheet of sand paper and ground off all the rough edges and sharp points. While doing so I also put a slight bevel into the stone by cutting back the outer edges.Once the stones were done......... great tool and one I will use for the rest of my life.......... with a little care. These are not the hardest of stones. I would call them average. They do a reasonable job for your everyday needs. NOT for high performance, precision applications.Highly Recommended.
