Not for a 6 year old
This is definitely not for a 6 year old.My girl is 6 and is going through precocious adrenarche. Which means she has grown up in some area a little faster than most.I wanted her to have a book that could make her feel a little better about it, and not so alone. This book is more for 8-10 year olds I would say, right before puberty. It goes into too much details for my liking for my 6 year old.

Not suitable for adopted children. Not inclusive for LGBT+ families. Outdated language.
I don't usually leave negative reviews but I was really disappointed by this book. It was recommended to me as a gentle introduction to the concept of puberty for a child showing early signs. I can see how the story might be the gentle introduction that some are looking for, but there are references to how the hormones made the girl 'mad about boys' and the boy 'interested in girls', as well as how their bodies changed 'so that one day they could be your mummy and daddy'. It's also described that hormones 'made them crazy about each other'. There are a lot of assumptions made about the circumstances of the child reading the book, which as I said, might work for some, but at the very least I'd be cautious about reading it with a child who's adopted and/or being raised in an inclusive environment.

Great
Bought for my 9yr old as she was getting a little hairy. It is a good basic ‘your body is changing’. After reading it she said Oh that was a little awkward and we giggled. She’s kept it in her bedroom if she wants to have a look and I’ve said I’m here for any questions. I like the cartoon aspect of it. She found it easy reading. Would def advise for a first info book.

Great, perfect for my 8 year old
My 8 year old loves this book and read it twice in one evening. I try to be very honest and open when she has questions. Recently we’ve been talking about puberty this book has helped her with an age appropriate understanding of what to expect for both girls and boys.

Be Warned, not just about ‘Hair in Funny Places’
Be warned, this book talks about periods too and I didn’t read that in the advertisement. I thought the book was about hairs developing. Thank goodness I read it first before I read it with my daughter. I have now put it away for when the time is right, as my daughter is too young to talk about periods but has got a common condition called Adrenarche, where children develop hairs, B/O a couple of years before puberty.

Disappointing and outdated
So disappointed as I had high hopes for this book. Firstly the 'hormones' are depicted as horrible scary little creatures. My sensitive girl would be upset at the thoughts of them living inside her ! Also several references to 'boys liking her new body' etc enforcing the idea of womens bodies existing purely to please men. Outdated and an inappropriate message to be giving to young girls . The search continues for a suitable book

Babyish, waste of money
The book was for my 9yr old and I found it was very basic and babyish, not at all like the books she reads and a bit more like her 5 yr old sister does. It left more questions than answers where we had to fill the gaps. We had hoped these basic things would be covered as well as more mature information but we will now need to get another book for more information. It was also very short and doesn't give us any more details than we could have given ourselves. I appreciate you need to be age appropriate but this was a total waste of money.

Not quite for a 6yr old as recommended!
It was recommended for ages 6 and up. However I do think it may be dependent on child. My daughter is 6 and some content is just a bit too much info I feel for her at this stage, so I have only shown her bits of the book. I haven't even read her the boys as I feel it's a bit too much info at this stage!!
