As another purchaser remarked seven years ago, the first few pages of the kindle edition are missing, and no one brazen enough to take money for this has bothered to repair that oversight since it was reported. The edition was prepared with obsolete optical scanning technology so there are hundreds of typos, some of which can be easily corrected, some of which remain a mystery to the reader.Amazon should be ashamed of itself, if it has any shame left. Pure theft.

The Lawrenceville Stories are wonderful, but I can't give this kindle edition 5 stars because the first two pages are missing. The book starts in the middle of a sentence on what should be the top of page 3. Fortunately, the first two pages can be read in the sample for the hardcover edition.
