I am not familiar with such files. Why would you use these instead of a die set?

I have to order one of these because i am rethreadung the center of a bike crank assembly bar and the tap and die set is not wide/big enough to fit around the crank shaft where the threads are. If i had this i could just file the threads and be done with it. I may check back when i do so.

Does each side have a different pitch

yes, 24 different pitches in all between metric and sae. handle is reversible, more pitches underneath it. MADE IN USA. great buy

will it repair nut threads?

No. MIne would not even repair bolt threads. I sent them back for a refund.
