Sedona Trails Map

Great map, but difficult to get used to after using Green Trails maps.
I liked to map and wanted to support a local source. The design of the map used new, to me, symbols and markings. I'm used to Green Trails and bacis topographic maps and this map diverges from those standards. Certainly no question this was a good quality and accurate map though. I ended up using the Green Trails map while on the trail, but referred to this map while planning my hikes.

Thought it would be trail specific
I thought it would have individual trail maps for popular hikes. It is more like an atlas map

Excellent Sedona Trail map for Mt Biking and Hiking
I haven't hiked all the trails in Sedona but I bought this map prior to a visit to the area and was glad to have it. It's not a substitute for a good guide book but it's what you want to have with you on the trail along with a compass and an altimeter. (and lots of water!)I liked that it has the altitude diagrams for most of the trails so you can see what the elevation gain over distance is at a glance. Yes experienced map readers can glean that information off the contour lines but having it shown as a graph makes it truly easy. Also a table of trails which are open or closed to bikes is also nice.Missing is a compass rose with Magnetic declination on it for aligning your compass with true North. These compass roses are on all USGS maps and it would have been easy to put on this map. With GPS it's not as necessary but there's no reason not to.The paper is vinyl coated which makes it nearly waterproof. I left my copy with the hosts at the B&B in Sedona and they were very impressed with it.In general a very nice map of the region.

Best Trail Map of Sedona
This was the perfect trail map for hikes around Sedona. The fact that it shows elevation is really helpful since there are some really steep and challenging hikes in the Sedona area. This trial map was really a valuable tool for hiking. I wouldn't go hiking in the Sedona area without this map.

This map isn't quite perfect - for some reason it's really hard to identify the roads (they are shaded gray and I think a simple color change to black would make all the difference) and it's also a little hard to understand where the parking is for the trails. I do like the additional detailed information about the hikes themselves. I have just compared it to the Beartooth Publishing Sedona Outdoor Recreation Map which feels much more user friendly and I think that's the one we'll use for the rest of our trip.

All that said it was still the best map available
Very helpful and detailed map. I dont know if it is out of date or what but it is missing a few details such as a few official trail heads. It also doesnt have some other well used "unofficial" trails that are well documented in some other books, but I think this map is meant to cover only the official trails (otherwise it would be VERY messy). The road names on the map are a little confusing too as most are not named. I usually just looked at the map and compared it with google maps or my GPS/Garmin. All that said it was still the best map available, its durable, waterproof, and huge. But you can fold it down small enough to use it on the trails.
