Can Parliament Take Back Control?: Britain’s elective dictatorship in the Johnson aftermath

Relevant, timely and essential reading for those who care about the future of British democracy
I read this concise yet comprehensive book with great interest. It articulates much of what many of us feel is wrong with our current system of government and proposes practical solutions. It is a timely and highly relevant book which contains some well thought-through recommendations for constitutional reform. Timely because our system of government is at a critical point in its history. Never before has the vital role of Parliament been so weakened and undermined by the executive as it was under the Johnson years. Relevant because British democracy, like so many other western countries, is currently facing the hugely corrosive influences of populism, polarisation and post truth media coverage. Written by experienced and highly knowledgeable parliamentarians, this book is a must read for anyone who cares about the future of British democracy and the protections and values it provides.

Excellent read
While there are other books on this topic, Nick and Paul's recommendations are precise and well thought out, based on their combined years of practical experience. Essential reading for the incoming Government and anyone interested in protecting Parliamentary democracy from elected dictatorship
