Q: what are the dimensions of the food compartment??

Not sure about exact dimensions, but it holds about 2 cups of food.

Q: Is there an automatic shutoff feature?

Hi Jade, tried to keep this as simple as possible and it is designed to warm one meal. Battery will run down, and cause turn off. That being said, different meals heat differently with less dense food heating more quickly. Stirring and leaving latches open will also improve heating time-some customers have gotten as many as 3 meal heats with light food like pasta. This would require manual turn off to preserve battery life.
