Through my years as a yarn shop owner I've discovered both how knitters learn but also their common frustrations. I've tried to anticipate questions and present information with clarity so that readers will make more progress as a knitter while working independently. Don't get me wrong. Your local yarn shop (LYS) and knitting friends are great resources but I want my readers to be able to access the information they need whenever they want. One of the things that sets Knitting 101 apart from other books of its kind is the number of photographs - there are almost 400 of them! I wanted to make sure the images were correct so I was actually the hand model for the book. I worked side-by-side with the stylist and the photographer for 11 days to take the photos. This is my first book to have accompanying video content (available online through the publisher). I realized as I was working on the script that the video is a valuable tool for enhancing the experience of my readers. As a yarn shop owner, I've learned that knitters often need to be shown a technique in more than one way. After reading the directions in a book, my customers would often come into the shop to ask one of us to show them the same technique in person. I was also the hand model and the spokesperson in the video. By reading the book and then looking at the video, it's almost like having a knitting teacher sitting beside you. The book has seven main sections. There are 20 projects that are used to reinforce the information learned in the skill portion of each section. The projects are great fun and intended to help knitters learn and progress without frustration.
