Good reference for. a simple exam.
The Secutiry+ exam is an entry-level exam and this book covers all the necessary topics of the exam.If you have some industry experience, this book will help you pass by rounding out your knowledge.I'd recommend this book and another book like the 'exam cram' series which hit only the highlights of the exam. With both books, you'll be sure to cover all critical topics to pass.Arthur Conklin writes well and makes the subjects tolerable.I haven't noticed any technically incorrect statements in the book but I haven't been looking for them either so I'll leave that to another reviewer.I bought the Kindle version so I can keyword search for what I want to know.I write training material and questions for this exam and this worked well for me.Try one.

The Definitive Guide for 501
This series of books has always been the go to for me for comptia certifications. This one did not disappoint. A lot of material to chew through, but it covers everything you need to know. Course, since the 501 version of this test is no longer offered, THIS particular book is now mostly irrelevant, but go get the version for the test that is active, it is well worth the money.

A Good Introduction to Computer and Network Security
This was recommended by a university faculty adviser. Reading it is straight-forward. The quizzes give one good insight into how well one is absorbing the material. There are many items to cover. So for example, if one must learn the inner workings of a particular hardening technique or a piece of hardware, the book might not get into the desired level of detail. I am only half-way through, but have already found it to be a great intro to Computer and Network Security.

Great textbook! It covers just about everything. However, The quizzes need improvement.
I recently passed the SY0-501 exam using this book. I read it cover to cover and took notes over everything. What I can tell you is that I personally preferred this to The Mike Meyers Udemy course, and Professor Messer's youtube channel (I tried those out before getting the book). After reading this book, you NEED to get your hands on realistic practice tests. You will have the base knowledge to pass the exam, but you need practice on application. You need challenging questions that will help you select the right "tools for the job", so to speak.****Your goal is is to pass the SY0-501 exam, not necessarily become more knowledgeable about cybersecurity. There is a difference; your primary goal is passing the exam, so focus on that until you do.****-----PRO------ This is a straightforward, bang-for-your-buck textbook that will get you 90% ready for the exam.- I can say that there was very little on the exam that this book didn't cover, or if it did cover, it didn't cover it too well (or I just forgot).- It's really (really) nice that it comes with an eBook. I didn't realize the value of this feature until I started travelling around for work/holidays, and I didn't have to lug the book around. The eBook is on every one of my devices, so accessibility was no issue for me. The physical book sat in my drawer at work, where it was needed (my employers are rightfully iffy about downloads).- The book doesn't spend too much time on stuff you don't need. In order to paint a complete pictures, the book will explain deprecated security concepts, however, it doesn't waste too much of your time with this, and makes it abundantly clear that they're deprecated.- The book clearly identifies all SEC+ objectives, and brings you through them by the hand in an organized matter that makes sense.- It makes use of diagrams to explain more complex structures, which is far better than a paragraph description (the book has both)-----CON------ The quizzes need to be revised. They're a nice tool for "retrieval" of what's in the book, however, they're not an adequate representation of what's on the exam.Any compTIA exam you take is going to be full of wonky questions, usually, with entirely too much information that you need to be able to mentally sift through in order to find the few words that will lead you to the correct answer. Other times, there will be questions with far too little information that expect you to make logical leaps.Learning how to properly answer compTIA questions is itself a skill that needs to be learned. The quizzes in this book are well worded questions that any sane person would ask. Unfortunately, that's not what compTIA is going for with their questions.****REMINDER: Your goal is is to pass the SY0-501 exam, not necessarily become more knowledgeable about cybersecurity. There is a difference; your primary goal is passing the exam, so focus on that until you do.****- Sometimes, the book gets pretty repetitive, and not in a good way. There are paragraphs in which it feels like the same thing is being rephrased over and over again with a tiny bit of information added to each new iteration. This grinded on my nerves whenever this happened (which thankfully, was only a few times)-----Minor Nitpicks------ You're mostly left on your own to figure out how you're going to memorize a lot of the information. I'd like to see more use of things such as mnemonic devices, or abstract imagery to help the reader remember. Not a deal-breaker by any stretch, I'm just saying it would be nice.- There's not a ton of information on port number and the associated protocols. I was only asked a few questions about them, but I imagine that other people people taking the exam might not be so lucky. I did additional research to learn all the common port numbers.

Best I've Seen for SY0-501
This is one of the best I have read. I earned the Security+ on the prior exam and am now developing a training course. I purchased several study guides as reference material and this one is the best. It directly addresses each exam objective in the order of the official CompTIA exam objective documents. The publisher is a high-quality name with a long-standing reputation in education. I can wholeheartedly endorse this edition as an IT professional and an IT instructor.

Used Same Book as an Undergraduate learner in my Advanced Bachelor's IT Degree
I purchased this book as I'm prepping to take my Security+ exam by feb 2019. The book is the same book we were told about during our undergraduate program. The book is laid out well, and has 29 chapters, review questions to do at the end of each chapter, exam tips, and a cd with 200 practice questions on it. I'm confident in my own expertise, and by reviewing this book that I will pass on the first try.

Best SY0-501 book currently on the market
The "CD-ROM" version of the book (at the time of purchase) is actually the physical book + the included media for labs and practice tests, etc. If you have ever used a cert book from the All-in-One series, it's as you would expect it to be. Good and relevant information, and well written. This book paired with Professor Messer's videos/practice questions is the best way to prepare for the test (in my experience)
