Leapster Ultra Handheld Learning Game Console for Kids Age 4+

Before I gifted this to my son, I set up the unit to test for myself. I was initially concerned it would not hold his attention for very long, but am pleased to report that he is very satisfied. I have tried my best to keep my son away from smart phones, video games, and digital tablets as I wanted him to build the necessary basic motor skills before introducing him to something like this device. You can’t keep them completely away from them this generation, unfortunately. Of course, his first gut instinct was to tap the screen, immediately when the first series of prompts came up. As he used the Leapster, he began asking questions about the words and terminologies used in each of the games, prompting conversation between parent and child… not to mention a lot of laughter. These interactions are all invaluable for a parent. As for the software, the games are all intuitive enough for young children to quickly grasp. My son was able to follow the instructions without my guidance and navigate through the games all on his own. The only issue with this is introducing your child to a potentially addictive source of entertainment, which I have quickly decided to set rules around (30-minutes a day, only after homework is finished). As for the unit, the unique controls were intuitive enough for him to pick up quickly. It also has a bright, colorful, and rotatable LCD screen, which is also impressive. I believe this product is a good kick-start to engage children with digital products. Overall, I am pleased with the product and would recommend it to others with children.

My 4yo saw my husband’s game controllers and wanted his own so we bought him this. He loves it and is able to do the games himself but they are also challenging enough for him that it keeps his attention.

I got this for my grandson for his birthday on Mothers Day, he wanted it so bad he couldn't wait it unwrap it, he loves it, thanks leap frog 😍

I got this for my special needs child who needs easy directions . It’s good but to much talking, good quality if your child gets overwhelmed or overstimulated this might not be for you.

Grandson has had this for over a year and still uses it daily. This is for any kid that either hates math or loves it.

It says it's for 4+ but my friends 4 year old son found it really difficult to use. It broke easily. It's definitely not 4 year old friendly. I'd say it's educational but again, it was tough for him to understand (he's at a normal intellectual level for his age).

It comes with lots of cool games, my son loves it. its very easy to use and i feel better handing this too him rather then his tablet. He seems too draw more towards this then any of his other toys.

Really poorly designed internally. The rotating screen looks great but due to how this was manufactured the internal cables will eventually tear out of one of the two mainboards (ours was on the right side) as the screen is rotated. The connecting ribbon inside is punched through the boards on each side and then hot glued into place. There's a cable guide in the middle that moves the ribbons as the screen is rotated, which applies sideways pressure to the ribbons where they punch through the board, so every time you rotate the screen you are applying sheering force to the wiring. This is really shoddy manufacturing, especially considering the $50 price tag on this. We've had this for 2 years of very gentle adult supervised use, and it has never been dropped or mishandled. I absolutely do not recommend this Leapster Ultimate.

This this toy is very good. It is exceptional. I love buying these leapfrogs because it helped my son so much.

My son loves it! Educational and less dopamine-addicting than a tablet. My advanced 4 year old son loves it.

My son loves this! And I am super happy that he plays with this in the car or when were out rather than asking for the phone to watch a movie one.

Bought for 2.5 year old. Was great just a little hard for him

Works better than expected, long battery life, very durable. Games are fun to play.
