A Very Inspirational Story of Friendship for the Black Lives Matter Movement!
I read "We Are The Supremes" (from the "Friends Change the World" series) three times before I wrote this review. I found the story very inspirational. It had me wishing that I had grown up with friends that were as close as Flo, Mary, and Diana. I found their story intriguing and inspirational. The power of friendship is powerful indeed. "We Are The Supremes" was an educational experience for me. Having grown up the sixties and seventies, I remembered the Supremes. Throughout the eighties, I continued to follow Diana Ross' career. I still listen to some of her songs. I remember her singing with Michael Jackson. I loved the tribute song Diana sung in memory of Marvin Gaye."We Are The Supremes" brought back some fond memories for me. However, it also reminded me of the Civil Rights Movement and the role that the Supremes played in breaking down racial barriers. Let us not forget them during the Black Lives Matter Movement. Motown Records initiated a similar movement in Detroit when they began supporting black artists. Most importantly, "We Are The Supremes" is about friendship and the important role it plays in shaping our futures. This children's book is a book for all ages. All ages can enjoy reading it. It sits on my coffee table along with my copy of "We Are The Beatles." Both of them compliment each other. They are both part of the wonderful "Friends Change the World" series. I hope more books in this series are published by Wide Eyed Editions. It is nice to be part of a team that watches out for you. That is what I miss most about being retired. I am no longer part of a team. I miss the friendship and camaraderie that I once had. With its wonderful prose (writer Zoe Tucker) and delightful illustrations (artist Salini Perera), "We Are The Supremes" reminded me of the importance of friendship and that we should be friends with everyone, no matter what color they are. After all, Jesus commanded that we love one another. Friends love each other; with love, we can accomplish most anything. Therefore, I highly recommend "We Are The Supremes" to anyone who was a fan of the Supremes, anyone who supports the Black Lives Matter Movement, and anyone who believes in the power of friendship and wishes to convey this to our children. "We Are The Supremes" and "We Are The Beatles" belong in every school and church library across the country.

Early years simplicity
The lovely aspect of children's book is that it can focus on a specific period before things get complicated. That is what is enjoyable about "We Are The Supremes (Friends Change the World)" written by Zoe Tucker and illustrated by Salini Perera. For young audiences, they may not be familiar with The Supremes so this book is a nice introduction. It starts with Flo and Mary with Diana joining a bit later. It follows the 'hard work' story line and stays firmly in the early years simplicity. I love the artwork which is bold and expressive. The narrative is audience appropriate. For a person of my age, it was a nice jog down memory lane (or maybe my mom's memory lane as she loved The Supremes). For the audience, I hope it introduces them to a fantastic group of ladies who have a timeless sound.

historical nonfiction, but written as literary nonfiction
We Are The Supremes (Friends Change the World) Hardcover January 12, 2021Pros:· Literary Nonfiction· Approachable for Young Readers· Gives More Information about The Supremes in a Nonfiction Spread at the End of the Book· Great Artwork· Great Themes: friendship, hard work, determination Cons:· I wish it touched on the civil rights movement more/the historical context This is a cute picture book that tells the story of The Supremes. I love the artwork and that it is historical nonfiction, but written as literary nonfiction. By writing their history as a story it is accessible to young readers as they can latch onto the themes of friendship and determination. I originally ordered this for my two year old son as he loves reading anything and everything (he reads board books, but also a lot of picture books written for older age groups), but I think I’m going to hold onto it for a while before letting him read it as it is a bit long at 32 pages of content. At that length and without cars or dinosaurs he might lose interest at his age. However, as an educator I could see using this in an English classroom. It would be a great way to go cross-curricular. You could use this as a model of how to take a piece of history and write it as literary nonfiction. Then your students could research their own piece of history and create their own literary nonfiction piece based off of this piece.Thank you so much for taking the time to read this review, have a FANTASTIC day!!

Three is better than one, if they all work together
Friends Change the World is a wonderful series of children’s books that spotlights groups of friends that worked together to make big changes in the world around them. This book, We Are The Supremes, tells the story of how 3 young ladies from Detroit became sensations in the music industry.Flo, Mary, and Diana were just high school girls when they became a group known as the Primettes, an all–girl group who did singing gigs with a boy band called the Primes. They performed around Detroit, which because of all the automobile industries was known as Motor City. Berry Gordy was a record promoter who headed Motown records and he heard and auditioned the girls. He loved what he heard but turned them down for a contract until they finished high school. The girls worked hard to finish school, become better at their craft, improve their dance moves and perfect their stage appearance with nice clothes. This worked out as they soon had the contract they desired. At this point, they changed their name and became The Supremes – the iconic group of super talented black women. This is a wonderful book for young kids as it shows them how friends can make you better. How friends can pool their talents to become the best that they can be.

Heartwarming storybook telling of The Supremes story
Nice little storybook-format graphic book telling the story of 60s pop princesses The Supremes. Beautifully done drawings that show the authors/artists did their homework in reflecting the three main characters, Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson and Diana Ross. And it is particularly poignant since Mary Wilson passed on recently.
