SO FAR, SO GOOD
I ordered these for my GE refrigerator instead of the ones that are supposed to be used in my refrigerator (OEM "GE" branded water filters). These do not have the electronic chip on the side, so they are not recognized by the refrigerator. If you install them without the chip, the refrigerator turns off the dispenser and ice maker due to the fact that it does not "know" that there is a filter in place.Due to the current global situation, a shortage of electronic chips is currently being experienced in many industries, which has resulted in a shortage in supplies of the products which contain such chips, including these water filters. In order to install these and for them to work properly, one has to one of two things:1) Carefully remove the chip from the old water filter being replaced, or:2) Carefully remove the chip from the "dummy" water filter that came with the refrigerator.I tried removing the chip from the old water filter, but I was unsuccessful. I removed the chip from the dummy water filter with no problem (it was not even glued into the body of the dummy; it just had a label over the little indentation of the body of the dummy, and the chip was in there just floating around, so I peeled back the label, extracted it from the dummy, and then used that chip on the side of the new water filter. I installed it, and flushed a gallon of water through the filter, and everything works just as it should. The thing one should realize is that a notice appears on the refrigerator screen "NOT FILTERING" when using the ice or water dispensers. Not to worry. The water filter is working, the water passes through the filter. The world may be all screwed up, but with these filters, you'll still have filtered water for your ice cubes and drinking and cooking water until the time of the next zombie apocalypse. Just remember to make note of the date to change the filter again in six months, and when you do, peel the chip off the side of the spent filter and tape it to the side of the new filter, and you'll be good to go.

RPWFE Replacement
Bought to replace the RPWFE filter in a GE fridg. I peeled the sticker covering the chip glued on the RPWFE filter I was replacing, snapped a photo to remind me of the correct chip orientation, then carefully and patiently removed the exposed chip with a paring knife. The manufacturer of this replacement thoughtfully printed a rectangle on the label precisely where the chip should go. Attached the chip with a dot of Elmer's glue and reused the original gummed label from the replaced filter overlying the chip to keep it in place. My fridg does not have a water dispenser to flush out the excess carbon so I let it make ice for 3 days (which I dumped) before using any. If you don't have a water dispenser to immediately see that the filter is working you'll have to wait for a few hours to see if any new ice is birthed. This hack worked for me. Shame on GE, not so much for this design, but rather for the obscene markup that prompts all this fiddling.

Alternative to getting screwed by GE
These filters fit just fine in your GE refrigerator, but you have to cut off the barcode on the original filter and tape it to these replacements so it lines up with the reader inside the refrigerator making it think you have one of the $50 GE filters. Only downside is the refrigerator thinks the original one is still in use and gives you a warning that you need to replace the filter. If that's an issue and it was with my wife, you can remove the panel and place black tape over where the warning appears on panel. That will block out the temperature on panel but no warning to replace filter. I think it's a deal, $11 vs $50 for that same filter just with a barcode on it! As others say GE should be ashamed doing this.

appears OK.
I bought these to provide a low-cost alternative to the chip-equipped GE RPWFE. After completing the hack procedures outlined on the web, the RPWF filter appears to work fine. The water flow rate is quite high, however, which makes me wonder just how much filtering is taking place. The small plastic tabs near the two o-rings do not exactly match those of a RPWFE, but the RPWF appears to still lock in place with no leaks. There's no way I could use "Flavor" to evaluate the suitability of the filter as my raw city water has no taste to begin with. The filter itself is easy to install, but the required hack to make it work is probably not for the faint of heart.

Most Read! Almost Perfect
Since is not LG or GE or any Specific Brand it won’t work unless you take the chip from the old one and put it in the same place as the old one… it’ll work as great as expected but it won’t be recognized as a new one. For the amazing price it’d totally get this over and over!

couldn't get it to replace the rpwfe
I bought this because it has instructions for replacing my rpwfe filters. However, the plastic end of the filter that attaches to the fridge was different on these vs. the rpwfe, and they didn't work. I could get them in, and the water would work for several seconds, then it would shut off saying there was no filter. My chip was still good, and I think it was in the right place. I have a newer fridge, and on the rpwfe instructions it lists two different types of fridges - with one fridge, you're supposed to twist the rpwfe when you insert/remove, for the other fridge you are not supposed to twist it. I have the kind where you are not supposed to twist it. I am wondering if GE came up with the non-twist type in order to fix it so that these rpwf's can't be used.
