Works great if you already have M12 batteries
I've recently fallen head over heels for Milwaukee's M12 line. Their M12 impacts beat the snot out of my DeWalt 18v stuff. For as long as forever, I've been dragging my 50' extension around so I can use my Hakko soldering iron. Great soldering iron but that meant that any car I'd work on would have to be within 50' of my shop. I had a job one day that required some field work. I browsed online and figured a Dremel butane soldering iron would do. Although that came highly recommended by my colleagues, it meant having to stock butane in my shop. I already have to keep track of argon, CO2, MAP, propane, acetylene and oxygen.I figured I'd give battery power a try since the rest of the M12 line hasn't let me down yet. Sprung for it and couldn't be happier. Using a Red Lithium CP 2.0 24wh battery, it heats up in 15-20 seconds from dead cold and lasted me all day. I had to install a stereo and do some wiring under the bed of one of my work trucks and it didn't skip a beat. I haven't used it with heavier gauge wire but I seldom, if ever, solder heavier wire. Some people complain about the bulkiness of the unit and it's honestly not that bad, paired with the smaller M12 battery. I haven't tried it with the heavier pack but I don't intend to either. It works well pistol-gripping it and it works just as well being used in the pencil grip.Overall, I'd buy this again if I needed another portable soldering iron. The only drawback is there's no temperature control. Zip. It's just on and off.

Great for Precision Work
It's compact and heats up quickly, making it perfect for detailed work. The battery life is excellent, and the performance is reliable.

Amazing.
Up to temp in under 10 seconds. Light and easy to work with. It has a light that shows it's warming, up to temp, and safely cooled off. I ran it for maybe 30 minutes and it still had battery left.I rewired a car trailer and was easily working on 14 guage wires. Maybe 8 seconds to get it hot enough to pull solder through the wire.I have used corded Weller type irons for 20 years. They seem to smoke tips really quickly. Most often try to be "cold tip" irons. So they are safer. I'm an adult and I want that thing hot so I can work quickly. It also keeps the wire cooler so I don't shrink my wrap before I get it over the joint. I should have bought one years ago. It's quick enough to cut on and off as it heats so quickly. Adjustable head direction and one extra tip.Great product.

Good tool
Gets hot quick, use the large square battery and it acts as a stand

Not enough power for 16ga -14ga wires and terminals . Solid unit, just not milwaukee's best idea.
It's decent. No flaws with it. I give it 4 stars based on the idea of this thing. It doesn't have enough power to do the kind of things i want to do where i don't have, or don't want to pull an extension cord. I just installed a 70V audio system around my barns and yards. I used this gun. It works fine but you need more power for say 14ga and lamp cord sized wires and soldering to terminals. It will do them but not quickly. It is handy and feels good in the had while sitting at a bench, but in this situation i can use a corded gun. What would be more useful is a 100-200 watt cordless, even with shorter M12 battery life.

Milwaukee M12 Soldering Iron (Bare Tool)
Purchsed 2... (1) for my bro & the (1) other for myself. Also purchased a Milwaukee PacKout Compact Organizer #48-22-8435 from Home Depot & a Milwaukee Soldering Iron Packout Liner for Compact Organizer from Amazon. All fit together like a glove. My husband bought all the rest of the "liner" pictured parts as stocking stuffers. So happy with this Item!

Why did i wait so long!
No more portable lighters, cables, wires - i own a small marine repair shop and this has been awesome. I prefer the larger battery for larger jobs but usually i try get all the soldering done simultaneously so it doesnt have to keep re heating... Ive managed to join 14GA romex with this as well (twisted 2 wires together and soldered the pair very well)!! its actually VERY capable more than the specs say!!
