If you intend to create MP3 files from you cassettes, Read This...
Well then, this will be a different kind of review... I'll start by confessing that this device did not meet my needs and it has been returned. Nonetheless I gave it a five star rating as an acknowledgement of the excellent customer support I received. My project is archiving a couple hundred rare-ish music cassettes by ripping them as MP3 files then storing them on the digital jukebox that blankets our home with music. I have been laboriously performing this using a high end Teac deck and the Audible app on a laptop, but the appeal of this little player was strong enough to catch my interest. Long story short, it is completely inappropriate for my purpose. To be fair, it works as advertised, but the quality of the MP3 analog to digital conversion is low grade, unacceptably so for serious archival use. Worse yet, there is a very awkward pause in the Recording To USB process that prevents it from beginning until your tape is already playing music. To begin recording to a USB thumb drive, you must first press PLAY and start the tape, then press and hold a small RecUSB button until a red recording light comes on. The light doesn't come on until audible sound is already playing from your tape. I can only vouch for this on the unit I have in hand, but Customer Support seemed to indicate this behavior was a Feature rather than a Bug. And that brings us to their Customer Support which was excellent! The documentation included a nice cart that provided an email address for support along with the promise of a quick response. I resorted to that immediately and repeatedly to get to the bottom of my questions and the answers were indeed quick in coming, accurate and complete. With that help, I was able to determine that this wasn't going to work for my particular needs, and easily arrange for a refund of my full purchase price. This device worked perfectly as designed, radio reception was strong and the sound quality playing a cassette was acceptable. It's a useful little boombox at a reasonable price. The only dealbreaker in my case wouldn't affect most buyers. The company explained what was going on and they cheerfully refunded my purchase. I have found that to be rare in these troubled times and so I reward this a five-star transaction. PS, I also suggested to their Customer Support that they update their listing to indicate the RecUSB delay. We'll see if they do so. -Grouchy

Converter to USB surprising good
The radio and tape player worked as expected. What surprised me was the converter for USB. I was going to add sound samples, but unfortunately Amazon won't let me. All my tapes that were originals from 1985 transferred over to the USB with a humming noise when played on my desktop. The humming noise came from the tape. It was slightly magnified during the transfer, but could be easily edited out for a clearer sound. I made a copy of a CD onto a tape back in 1991. Today I took that tape and transferred it to the USB and the sound was near perfect to the original CD. I was also able to transfer songs from my desktop (iTunes) to a flash drive and the music sounded great. This is a great little radio to have sitting on your desk in an office. Video is a song being played off of the flash drive!

Amazing!
I had so many old cassette tapes and didn't want to throw them away, so I took a chance on this and I'm so glad I did! I bought one and couldn't belief the simplicity of operation. No computer, no app, no cables to hook up, etc. Just pop a cassette in, hit two buttons and whamo! you're transferring to mp3! I love also that it can record radio programming and has the option to just listen to the radio only if desired. It is also portable! Battery operated, you can take it anywere. Love it so much, I bought 3 more for family members and relatives. You won't regret it!

update
Originally, I gave this product a 5-star rating. After all, where can you find a sharp-looking little cassette player with so many recording features at this price? I got it for only $35.99. but it's a bargain even at a higher price. I have tens of lectures recorded on cassettes, which inevitably lose their quality over time or get eaten by the cassette player. A simple, user-friendly way to record these on mp3 format is fantastic for me, and the unit's sound is quite loud. I highly recommended this product. However, after 3 months of daily use, the speakers started fading in and out when using the cassette player. Luckily, I had purchased the Asurian extended warranty for a few dollars. (the original warranty is not listed anywhere on Amazon, and I could not find the company on the web) Asurian dealt with my claim immediately, all smiles and no hassles. and within a few days I had a new unit. Since they reimbursed me for the full price of the unit, and I got it again on sale, so, essentially, the new extended warranty was free. So, the bottom line is that if you like this product, then buy it with the extended warranty. Anyway, in my experience, most boom boxes don't last more than 2-3 years.

Customer satisfied- thank you!
The cassette player ate my tape!!! I had bought this player with high expectations after reading the wonderful reviews, compared to the other players which were unfavorable. I snatched it up right away. I played the storybook tape only twice without any problems. On the third run, it started out okay with the title, author, Illustrator...then- it ate my tape! I specifically bought this player so that I could play my read-along storybook/cassettes for my young grandchildren. Now, I can't...we are all very, very, very disappointed. That tape was a favorite for 15 years during my preschool teaching years- irreplaceable. I've notified the Warranty company, and if necessary, I will file a claim with Asurian's 3 year Accident Protection Plan which I bought for $4.99. I'm so disappointed. UPDATE: I was sent a replacement unit after contacting Semier, since the warranty was still in effect. The company was very prompt at attending to my problem- within a week the replacement unit arrived. So far, the replacement unit is functioning properly. I have played a tape in the cassette player without any problems. I rewound it, fast forwarded it, and played it a few times. The only feature that I am not able to test is the Record feature because I don't have any blank tapes. I hope that it works, if I ever do record. The sound quality and volume are very acceptable as I'm listening to the radio. So, thank you, "Jess" at Semier for taking care of me.

Did *mostly* everything I wanted - Battery Issue
This little boombox is great for the price and how fast it gets to you. The radio sound is good although the tuner it is difficult to locate a specific channel because of the small tuner window and needle. But next time I will just get a digital tuner radio. I was able to record quickly, easily, and high quality onto blank cassette taps. They play back very nicely. Recording voice onto tape was not that successful. You could hear the sound but it was so soft and the quality was not good at all. I will not use that feature moving forward. I have not used the USB feature - I thought I could use my iPhone but I cannot. The reason I won't give it 5 stars is because batteries did not work with this! I used two separate brands of new batteries and they did not work. This means I have had to use the small power cord it came with which does make it less attractive to use. If the battery worked, I would give it 5 stars.

Very Pleased
My main use is to convert cassette recordings to mp3. It does that quite well. I have not used it an awful lot, but Very Pleased at the recording quality, especially when compared to a previous, cheap version I bought.

Very pleasant experience. Works as promised.
I've only had it for one day but it has already done it's job for me. Although I have a lot of cassettes from the 1990s and a few from 1970s, only a few of them were important to me which I wanted to convert to MP3. After seeing one or two negative reviews, I was worried that my cassettes would get damaged, so I first inserted my "not-so-important" tapes into the player. After seeing them run fine, I went ahead and inserted my important cassettes. The recordings came out great. The sound quality was excellent. It records at 128 kbps, which should be sufficient for most people. Since I only had a few tapes that were important, I successfully got them converted very quickly. So I can't comment on the durability/longevity as of yet although the quality of the product looks very good. At this price point, it should be worth the money. I understand every product has a few negative reviews but my suggestion is to give this product a chance. I'm very satisfied. One last note, for the USB drive, use a SanDisk 32GB (USB 3.0). Nothing else seemed to work. It's relatively cheap so shouldn't be a big deal. Instead of wasting time trying to make other drives work, just go get one of these.

I would definitely buy this again
If you are still holding on to old cassette tapes you need this item. It is incredibly easy to use and the quality of the recording is very good. So far I've transferred about a dozen tapes and I have not had any issues with it. Hopefully this continues.
