Didn't come with an instruction pamphlet. Would have been nice to know what the different settings relate to. Came in a box and there were no assembly required which was GREAT!! The handle was folded down that was it. Tested it right away and I spread a 40 lb bag of seed with it and it was fantastic. completely made of plastic and very light weight.

Very useful for spreading lawn products more evenly without having to do everything by hand. The wheels make it easy to move around the yard, and the EdgeGuard feature is especially helpful when working near sidewalks and landscaped areas. There is really nothing to assemble. It’s already preassembled great size as we have a big house with big driveway and good arts. It’s very easy to spread fertilizers or ice melt great value for the money great size. It does feel very durable and sturdy.

Need something simple for our small garden center, since employees borrow my tools and never adjust anything back. This Scotts spreader rolls smoothly on our cracked concrete and the handle feels sturdy. I like the edge guard. I flip it on to keep fertilizer off the walkway by the front door. That actually saves me cleanup time. The hopper holds plenty so I am not refilling every few minutes during a delivery rush. One gripe. The orange rate dial feels a bit flimsy and the printed settings are tiny. I had to stop and grab my reading glasses to set it. If they fixed that, I would be pretty happy with it for store use.

Purchased on May 20th 2026, used 2 times and the connecting pin to the agitator broke. The product I applied was pelletized and free flowing so no reason to break. Hoping to get some free replacement parts or I just threw $100 down the drain. Having major difficulty trying to find a human to talk to at Scotts. Their AI was not helpful at all. EDIT: While their AI support is useless it did provide an email to email support. It took multiple days but they did get back to me. Because they didn't have the part they sent me a whole new spreader, which was awesome. I will continue to be a Scotts customer with that kind of service!

Awesome spreader, works great. No having to put this thing together, easily folds down and you can store back in the box to keep it like new.

Replaced my older spreader which was hard to push and didn’t distribute the fertilizer evenly. This one is easy to push and regulate the fertilizer.

I bought this Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard DLX Broadcast Spreader in June. I chose it primarily for the EdgeGuard feature as we have a lot of area where fertilizer and seed are not welcome. When I first ran the spreader (empty) the drive wheel rotation was rather intermittent/sticky sliding along on the driveway. I took the unit apart and the only thing I noticed was that the outer bearing surface of the agitator had circular lines and grooves. After reassembly, it seemed to work better. At that point I should have just returned it. Now it is too late. But here are some things I learned. 1. Calibration I loaded up with 20 pounds weed and feed fertilizer, set the spreader according to the bag (4 ½), and setoff to apply the product. (The fertilizer is not a Scotts product, but the manufacturer specifically lists this spreader’s setting so I went with it.) Our lawn is approximately 24,000 sq ft, which works out to 72 pounds of material. However after some time I realized I should by now be using the second bag and when I did finish the application I still had not finished the first bag. It turns out I had only spread roughly 1.8 pounds per thousand feet, not the required 3 pounds. I subsequently did some tests to verify the calibration of the spreader. I fashioned a small pail to hang under the spreader and attached a plastic trash bag around the spreader body in such a way that all of the fertilizer would fall into the pail. I then walked a 200 foot path to simulate a 1000 square foot application. I then weighed the contents of the pail. At the recommended spreader setting I was only putting down 2 pounds per 1,000 sq ft. 2. Grinding Noise and Jamming While spreading product and during calibration I would notice a grinding noise and on at least one occasion the drive wheel pretty much locked up or get jerky. I believe this is caused by fertilizer getting underneath the agitator and working its way down between the agitator and the bushing. Every time I removed the agitator and flushed out the fertilizer, things would again work very smoothly. This may also be contributing to other people’s experiences with broken shafts on the gearbox and the impeller. I am trying to overcome this by installing two O-rings that fit over the agitator shaft and fit into the green housing bore, sitting on top of the white bushing. This will hopefully prevent material from getting down into the bushing. 3. Hopper Slide Door Operation I have encountered situations where either the hopper slide door does not open or it does not close. Unless you are paying particular attention to the black shaft to which the cable is attached you may not notice, as the spring action may mask the problem. The cable pulling on the shaft at an angle may also be contributing to this issue. 4. Striping of Lawn Another problem I encountered was a green striped pattern on my lawn. Some reviewers have experienced the similar results, blaming it fertilizer collecting on the wheels. I wonder if that would produce two stripes. My stripe is narrower than the wheels. I am more inclined to think that it might be caused by the EdgeGuard housing. Material is broadcast out of the impeller by centrifugal force. Material that hits the EdgeGuard housing just falls down. Hence the single wide stripe.

poorly designed product. leaves burn strips all over lawn. Have purchased Scott product before with poor results. there will not be a next time.
