What replacement battery does this unit require?

The unit uses 2 each CR2032 batteries, they last for at least 3 years depending on the frequency of rain and freezing conditions thaqt exist at your location.

How long does the battery last before needing to be replaced?

My factory installed batteries lasted about 3 months, the replacements I purchased from a discount store lasted 6 months. I think the radio is only active when it senses rain or low temp. So it is a smart design from the batteries point of view. Just expect the factory batteries to be old and not last a long time like a fresh set.

will it work with a rainbird timer ?

Yes, I have connected to a rainbird timer ESP12LX PLUS.

What is the wireless range?

The manual indicate there is a 200 foot line of sight range. That means, of course, something usually less because of inevitable obstructions to line of sight, but that gives you an idea.
