Original Album Classics

A very underrated band!
I have been meaning to buy up Journey's back catalogue for a long time. With the availability of the Original Album Classics collections, I decided to finally take a dive in and see what the fuss was about. I've owned the band's double best of for a long time now and pleasantly surprised to hear that there's more than just the hits with this band. The Original Album Classics collection is a very convenient way to buy up a band's albums. Sure, the actual product is fairly simple and barebones, but it let's you cover some major ground for a budget price. This was the perfect way to get these albums. This one features the albums, Infinity (1978), Evolution (1979), Escape (1981), Frontiers (1983) and Raised On Radio (1986).This is a Steve Perry focused collection, unlike the other Original Album Classics collection. You'll find the vast majority of the band's now legendary hit singles as well as a lot of fantastic album tracks here. I honestly feel there isn't a bad album in this box with each record having their strengths and weaknesses. Some are better than others and Escape is a downright classic. All of the albums sound great, are very well produced and some have some excellent bonus tracks. As mentioned above, this collection misses out Departure (1980), which is a bit of a shame. It's a considerably better album and would have fit better than Raised On Radio, which stands out stylistically with the rest and is the most commercial, dated and weakest of the five albums. It leaves a bit of a gap in their discography and is a bit frustrating for completionists like myself.I could go into detail on each album, but I honestly don't think you'd want to read that. I enjoyed each album quite a lot and I'd repeat myself a fair bit. What I will say is that if you're looking for the hits and more, this is a no brainer. The albums are great, they sound great and are very enjoyable. The asking price is quite suitable for what you get. So, don't hesitate if you're interested.

Journey almost complete
Reading other reviews here is funny because it is Amazon's error that the review for one product is automatically linked to another similar one. It happens. To make the confusion clear, stop and read.Below are Journey's studio albums in chronological order parenthesising lead singers. There are 3 different Original Album Classic Box Sets for Journey. This Original Album Classics contains the first 3 albums marked * featuring Greg Rolie as a vocalist. Steve Perry hadn't joined yet. And this Original Album Classics includes the other 3 albums marked +. And again this Original Album Classics for which this review is written has 5 albums marked X.01 1975 - Journey (Greg Rolie) *02 1976 - Look Into The Future (Greg Rolie) *03 1977 - Next (Greg Rolie) *04 1978 - Infinity (Steve Perry/Greg Rolie) X05 1979 - Evolution (Steve Perry/Greg Rolie) X06 1980 - Departure (Steve Perry/Greg Rolie) +07 1980 - Dream After Dream (Soundtrack to Japanese film) (Steve Perry/Greg Rolie)08 1981 - Escape (Steve Perry) + X09 1983 - Frontiers (Steve Perry) + X10 1986 - Raised On Radio (Steve Perry) X11 1996 - Trial By Fire (Steve Perry)12 2001 - Arrival (Steve Augeri)13 2002 - Red 13 (EP) (Steve Augeri)14 2005 - Generations (Steve Augeri)15 2008 - Revelation (Arnel Pineda)16 2011 - Eclipse (Arnel Pineda)Greatest Hits, Greatest Hits 2, Revelation and Eclipse are all the Journey albums I have. In addition now this box set. Being a big fan of Steve Perry, I would very much love to collect every Journey album featuring him. Thanks to Sony Music for releasing Original Album Classic series. But I wouldn't understand why Escape and Frontiers are packed twice. What about the other albums? Otherwise my collection would have been complete. Never mind.By the way, this box set comes in hard card board box a little thicker than the normal CD jewel case and inside goes 5 CDs in separate sleeves with album art, track lists and little production info. Not to expect lyrics and photos like in standard CDs. Economical for a collector which will also minimise the storage space in the rack. Brilliant.
