Excellent book of house plans, very well organised, good value, worth a look for anyone considering self build.

Usefull, as it includes very many floor plans.Modern houses are in general samewhat strange and not very usual or pratical. Traditional houses are "to much" british style.Besides total area infromation, it would be usefull to have areas for main partitions.

Lots of ideas BUT (and it's a BIG BUT for me) it claims, on the page "How to get the best from this book" that the Build Costs shown (as a single £££s figure) can be adjusted based on "Guide figures to work out the build cost of a home in different areas of the UK and using a wider range of different construction routes are shown on page 10."Unfortunately - in my copy at least - page 10 does nothing of the sort (nor anywhere else in the book). Page 10 is just another house plan. (I had the idea I would see some metrics something like in a Parkers car price guide where you can adjust headline cost for mileage, condition etc)I have left a couple of messages on the number for the publisher, Ovolo, (they don't pick up the phone) and they haven't had the courtesy to reply.Hey ho.

The floor plans give no dimensions or any scale. The estimated build cost seem out of date. It all looks very dull with plain black and white line drawings. No indication of suitability for setting location or climate. It’s a sort of catalogue but it’s nothing but a picture book. I look at these suggestions and can only imagine the complications of building these projects that will ensue.

Useful starting point

We have just received this book and wanted to tell you how great it is. We are looking to build our own home and this is giving us lots of ideas about style and layout. Thank you. It arrived very quickly too.

Sadly it seems that many of the plans are a reprint from an earlier edition, with a few new ones thrown in. Otherwise this is a great publication.Fast delivery and an excellent service; highly recommended.
