Ring Solar Panel (1st Generation), 2.4W, Barrel Plug Connector - for Spotlight Cam Battery and Stick Up Cam Battery - White

I own a lot of Ring gear, a mix of 6 versions of their cameras, camera/spotlights and doorbells and have owned some of my Ring gear for over 5 years. This was my first purchase of a battery powered Ring camera/light with the solar array accessory. I installed the set up the spring of 2021 - my impressions are below:Pro:-The solar array and Ring battery spotlight cam combo are conducive to an easier installation process than a wired Ring camera because you obviously don't need to install a 110v outlet or have proximity to one to make the installation.-The 13 foot connection cord allows for a variety of installation scenarios. In my case, I ran the cable under my vinyl siding around a fireplace chase with the solar array on the sunny side and the camera facing my back yard.-Inconspicuous appearance, does its job well. One important tip here - charge the battery to 100% BEFORE installation using the supplied USB cable and any USB power port. I bought an extra battery and it took me between 5 and 7 hours to charge each battery to 100% using the power cord. Do NOT rely on the solar panel to charge from 40% when the batteries arrive to 100%.-The solar array has kept my pair of batteries at between 99%-100% since I hooked it up about 3 weeks ago. My solar panel is in a very sunny, unshaded spot and it gets between 8 and 12 hours of sun a day.Con:-More expensive than the wired version, especially with 2 batteries. But the ease of installation, not needing a 110V outlet and the long power cord decrease labor time and the power is off the grid.- It's possible that many of the 1-2 star reviews for the solar array not working may be simple connection issues and not understanding how to set up the power draw the camera uses within the app.-I think the solar array needs a LOT more sunlight than Ring claims which is 2 hours a day. I'd bet it's more like like 6-8+ hours of direct sun. Your results may vary depending on your location for the solar panel and the amount of sun it receives.I saw a 1 star review that had the solar array mounted under and eave/soffit on a home. That's NOT going to work. The solar array needs full access to the sun so be thoughtful about the mounting location and under an eave is not a good choice for location.You also may need to adjust the power usage settings on the app - it basically has a low, medium and high power draw set ups. Understand the app, the settings and choose the right settings for your situation.Make sure you press the solar panel cable into the camera with enough pressure to fully seat the cord plug in the back of the camera. Then check "solar status" on the device health page (see photo). When I took the screen shot of the device health page I attached in the photos, it was raining outside and there was no solar charging going on - see the message from the app. If that "connected" note does not show up on the app, the array will not work properly. I have had the solar array cut out once since I installed it but got it quickly fixed.I wiggled the solar cable a bit on the back of the camera and it immediately came back online on the device health page on the app. I removed the solar array cable from the back of the camera and put a small dab of dielectric compound on the metal cable end and reinserted the cable. Dielectric compound improves electrical connectivity, prevents metal oxidation and helps waterproof the electrical connection. The array has worked fine ever since I added the dielectric compound.Your experience may vary based on location factors but based on my 5+ years of Ring experience and the performance of this particular solar camera package, I'd recommend this Ring solar array and camera without hesitation, especially where 110V outlets are not available or expensive to install AND you understand how to properly place the solar array and use the app settings. The media could not be loaded.  These Ring solar panels are hands down the only way to go!! Super easy to install and supply more than enough power for my ring stickup cameras. With just a couple hours of direct sunlight a day. Hurricane Zeta just came through last week where I live with winds reaching 120mph actually our 5th hurricane of the season but the only one since I installed the Ring solar panels! I was sure the were going to be gone the next morning! Most of our roof was gone as well as most every house in our subdivision! But to my surprise the panels held strong!! I could not believe it!! I have a few Ring stickup cams and I have a Solar panel for each one and none of them get more than a couple hours of direct sunlight a day. And they get a lot of use! These are the regular size panels not the larger panels. I have read a lot of negative reviews in regards to people having issues with their panels not supplying enough power to keep their Cams charged and here is what I have learned throughout trial and error because no one had any reviews about these things at the time of my purchase and may help some of you out.1. You don’t need one of the larger panels to power one camera as long as it gets a couple hours of direct sunlight a day. As my cams can get as many as 100 alerts and motion detections a day Each!2. When you connect your solar panels Ring will ask you would you like to switch power mode to Wired Mode and you must select NO and keep the battery selection because if you select Yes your cam will automatically unlock a lot of features that will keep your cameras power on almost constantly as apposed to just when it senses motion or an event resulting insufficient power for constant run time. Which is useless in my opinion because the only time I want my system to record is when they detract motion or an event anyway!3. Your battery is never gonna read 100% at all times that really depends on how much activity they get. My cam batteries may drop from 100% to 85% some days depending on the amount of activity they record but as I mentioned mine get 100 or more events and detections each in a single day! But they charge back pretty quick with just a couple hrs of direct sunlight a day I have no doubt if the panels had more direct sunlight they might rad 100% at all times.. but don’t get discouraged if they don’t. And I have all my setting and sensitivity’s set at the highest possible settings such asSnapshot every 5 min and record time is 3 min for each event with all with rich notifications on.With that being said this is a performance and installation review NOT an economic review of the ring solar panel even though I think $49.99 is a great price all things considered! These solar panels over all are a little pricey but well worth the money! And they install with just 2 screws! Can’t go wrong in my opinion!Hope I have helped some of you with this review if so give it a 👍

The battery life advertised for the stick up cam is too optimistic. Without the solar panel I would be charging it every few months, a real chore since the camera is only accessible by ladder when installed at its optimal height. The solar panel is easy to install and will charge the battery to 100% and keep it there in a few hours. Recommended.

Seems to work well so far but I'm very unhappy with the instructions.As shown in the photo, there is an insert in the package instructing to use two short screws to secure the wire to the cam. These screws, and what looks like a bracket to hold the wire, were missing from the box. Nowhere is there an itemized description of the exact contents. I returned the first package thinking parts were missing but the replacement was the exact same.I did some research on the web and it turns out the insert is for an earlier version of the solar panel, this version no longer needs short screws and the wire plug is completely different. All this wasted time and effort of returning an item because of outdated instructions that were included not in one, but two packages.
