Thorough instructions with excellent diagrams
I ordered this book because I have taken classes from Sue Spargo and I have made several of her quilts, smaller projects, and Block of the Month yearly quilts. This is the second edition of Creative Stitching so it has more stitches and more information about threads, fibers, and needles to use with each. The diagrams are very clear showing each movement of the needle and thread along with a written instruction for each movement. I think this way of teaching embroidery stitches is so much more understandable because you can see and read each little step in making the stitch. Ms. Spargo has gone into great detail about needles, the reason some needles have differents eyes and why a particular needle is used with each type of fiber. She shows all of the threads and fibers ( which are many) available to use in embroidery and embellishment whether the reader is making one of the type of textile pieces she teaches or any type of hand embroidery the reader may be interested in. This is worth the price of admission in and of itself. The stitches are grouped into chapters by their function and there are beautiful photographs throughout the book to show the many ways the stitches can be used. I recommend this book for anyone who wants a full encyclopedia of stitches, instructions for each, how to use the stitches in different ways, and complete information on the tools to use to achieve gorgeous embroidery and embellishment.

Nice little handbook
This is a very good stitch handbook with easy to follow instructions on how to create lots of stitches. Spiral bound makes it easy to lay flat.

Great resource
This is a great book. The photos are in color with detail photos on how to do the stitches. The more detail the stitch, the more pages it has on explaining the steps all with pictures. The only thing that I wish it had was the names of the stitches on shown projects. There are no project how tos in the book, just how to do the stitches. Included in the back is an 8 page variations guide on various stitches.

Nice book
Great book with every stitch imaginable. Instructions were for the most part easy but could have been better. In all fairness I am new to wool so that might be part of my issue. All in all it’s a great book with quality photos and I have already used several different stitches.

The ONE book I've been looking for!
I picked up embroidery after about a 50 year hiatus during the pandemic. My mom had a needle in my hand before I started school and I embroidered into my teens. When I started to look at embroidery and hand stitching blogs and videos I realized that stitching had come a loooonnnng way since my teens. Just the different threads, and the the needles they needed, boggled my mind. I've bought MANY embroidery and stitching books over the past year. Some better than others but the majority of them did a really poor job on instructing on stitches, discussing threads and/or needles.I came upon Sue Spargo's work a while ago but I was so discouraged about buying ANOTHER stitching book I hesitated for a long time to buy this book. I am so sorry I waited. She does an excellent job of instructing on the many stitches this book covers. The spiral bound construction really allows for ease of access while holding fabric and needle. She talks about the various threads and the needles that work best with them. When to use a milliners rather than a chenille, etc. And she included and extensive section on the variations of a particular stitch. This book will reside with my idea journal from now on. The other stitch books will wait patiently on the shelf...
