GigandetSea Ground Vintage Automatic Men's Analogue Diver Watch Black Silver G2-007

High quality components let down by a cheap plastic movement spacer.
There's a lot to like about this piece, it's a real quality feeling chunk of metal, with a heavy but steady 90 click bezel, with a very satisfying bezel action which lines up perfectly with the indices, and the lume pip on the bezel is sited perfectly in the centre of the triangle (on my watch, at least). The style is excellent, a pretty close approximation of the Steinhart OVM, except with applied indices and a whole extra 100m on the depth rating. The watch has a hackable, hand-windable Seiko NH35A movement now, instead of the Miyota that is listed. Mine arrived running around 23 seconds slow per day, which is not ideal, but well within variance for this caliber. I've nudged the regulator and it's now running at +12 seconds per day (I'd always rather a watch gain time than lose it) which is fine for the duration I wear any watch in my rotation. The bracelet is pretty easy to size if you have a pin extractor, and there's micro adjustments on the clasp. It's an oyster style bracelet with all solid links, which adds to the weight of the piece. With four links removed for sizing, mine still weighs in at 173 grams, which is even heavier than my all stainless G-Shock. It's also quite long across the lugs, so it'll look better on bigger wrists, but it's right at the limit for my 6 1/2" wrists. For the bad points, there was an issue with the watch when it arrived, and I considered returning it, but decided to check it out for myself as I wanted to regulate the watch anyway. When I first unscrewed the crown and adjusted the time, the crown stem wouldn't re-engage. It felt very springy and would just spring in and out when pushed. I had to give the crown a strong hit with the heel of my hand before the watch would start again and so I could screw the crown down. No amount of pushing or cajoling would work, only striking the crown quite hard. When I opened up the watch I found the white plastic spacer wasn't very secure, so I pushed it down firmly into place and tried the crown a few times, now it seemed to be working okay, so I closed up the watch and now it works fine, and it also now hand-winds, which it wouldn't before. I'm still not all that confident in that plastic spacer, as it didn't feel well seated even after I'd set it in its proper place. This plastic spacer seems to be a weak link in what is in all other respects a VERY strong watch. I'm not sure QC Gigandet have in place, but this fault should have been immediately obvious if there had been any testing at all, and it's no surprise that other people have had trouble with the crown. The watch shouldn't have been sent out in this state, and anyone with less knowledge of watches would have just returned it, with a very poor opinion of the brand. In all other respects this is a fantastic watch, with a high quality design, a nicely signed crown and clasp, and a very satisfying heft, look and feel, so Gigandet are doing themselves no favours using this plastic spacer which does not seem to be a good fit, and isn't being fitted with enough care or testing. This is my second Gigandet watch, the other being a quartz which works flawlessly, and is also a beautiful design. I hope they can sort out these kinds of niggles quickly, because they deserve to do well, but customers deserve a little more care being taken over the products they buy.

First Impressions.
The paint on the hands and indices is a little darker than shown in the picture.I struggled to extract and replace the pins when shortening the bracelet. The bracelet links seem smooth and feel good. The clasp works fine.Left alone it gained 3 or 4 seconds in 24 hrs (perfectly acceptable for a watch of this type).Feels heavy and well made.Bezel action is anti-clockwise only and has a smooth crisp feel to it.I can actually read the date because the cyclops lens does a good job of magnifying it.The movement makes a discreet ting-tick sound rather like the ETA auto movements.Only the hands actually glow on mine, not the indices. The action on the crown is crisp and positive when setting the date and time. The second hand stops when the crown is pulled out 2 clicks. (Hack).Over all I am pleased with this watch. My wrist is about 7 inches around and I can just about get away with it. A good work/leisure watch. Is it really waterproof to 1000ft? I intend to remain on dry land for the foreseeable future so it's only ever going to get splashed. I do tend to crash and bash my watches a bit (just destroyed an Omega Speedmaster no less) so time will tell. I'll update this review if any problems appear.

Great divers classic design
Great Divers Classic design, with issues.I had been looking for a new divers watch to add to my collection, and when this appeared on a deal I took the opportunity to purchase. Its a great timepiece, the quality of the case and bracelet are as good as other watches costing double. The Seiko NH35a movement keeps excellent time and is well within specs for the movement, showing a +/- of less than 10 seconds a day. The power reserve is a definite bonus with this movement, and the addition of manual winding makes it a great piece that can be left for a day or so if you are changing your watch regularly. The cyclops works very well making the date far more legible. The bracelet is easy enough to adjust, however if you do need to remove links, I would recommend buying a link pin removing tool, many available from Amazon. Now the bad point, The LUME, or sadly the lack of it, in the images of this watch it shows a reasonable level of lume, but sadly my watch doesn't have any, making it pretty useless when the lights fade or if you need it under water.

The magnifying cyclop is also better in real life than picture show
This watch got an upgrade with Seiko NH-35A movement which can hack and handwind and not Miyota 8215 as describe. The magnifying cyclop is also better in real life than picture show. 2X magnifying and not as picture shown of low quality 1X.But the one I got has a slight crook cyclops and a white dust inside the crystal which I managed to remedy all since I have some basic watch making skill.Bezel is very crisp with 120 clicks, dial is nicely done and so as bezel. The hand lume is better than average but the hr maker lume is almost non existent but I am content with it as long as I can still read the time in dark area. Backcase engraving is very good. Bracelet is fantastic finished. With improve on QC, this watch will get a 5 star. For price to quality/QC ratio, this watch deserve a 4 star.

Nice watch, but....
Very nice solid watch that feels well made and looks good on the wrist. The only downside, and why I’ve knocked a star off, is the appalling lume - practically non-existent. My seven inch wrist only needed one link removing from bracelet, those with bigger wrists may find it a snug fit!

The Gigandetwatch keeps quite good time
The Gigandet watch keeps quite good time., it is fast around 20 seconds a day, but hopefully as the watch wears in this will come down slightly.Be aware that this watch is quite rugged and heavy to wear due to its 300m depth rating. The lume is very faint and can only be seen in the pitch black, presumably because the yellow paint that replicates an old lume is covering the modern lume.
