Great overall but could be improved.
I love the compactness, ease of use, ergonomics, and durability of this mandolin. However, the large support does not lock into place when it is folded and has a tendency to flop around when being handled. I would recommend some kind of tension lock similar to the one on the short support to keep it in check. I also feel that having the main slicing blade perpendicular to the slicing direction reduces the ease of cutting. Possibly an angle to the blade would make slicing denser tubers such as beets easier. I have a plastic Bron mandoline that has a "V" blade that slices much easier than the MIU slicer.

My first Mandoline.
My Son wanted me to get a Mandoline and bugged me for 2 weeks...and so the research began, and took many days of searching reading reviews after reviews. He offered to pay up to $150.00 dollars. WOW...ok...And there really is a large array of different mandolines doing supposedly the same thing, slicing veggies evenly. I did settle on this one, as there were great reviews. Also, it's size is important for maintaining the momentum of the slicing motion. That I learned by watching a Chef's Show a few years ago, and the one thing I took from that was that these Chef's said "Not to buy a Mandoline that was not at least 15" to 17" long. So that was important to me. Ordered it on Oct 28th and it came on Oct 30th...Thanks Amazon!!! Couldn't use it for three days, (Eating Out Elsewhere)Tonight we used it. Son and I cut up, about 4 lbs of new potatoes in about 5-6 min and that was both of us trying for the first time using a mandoline. We need more practice for sure. The large Vidalia Onion I cut up first was fine and did well. Me learning how to get the holder thing to work right with veggies in it will take more time. My Son could do it great, and He did most of the small new potatoes, putting 2 potatoes in the holder. This Mandoline is very very sharp and extremely well thought out and built well. It should last for many many years. Reviewers had brutal things to say, that I found not true. (And I am a Retired Meatcutter so I know what SHARP is....)I posted pics of the locking "nub" that locks in the lower or bottom leg. Many people said that it wouldn't lock, but they must not have pulled the leg out all the way until it moves over the "nub" to lock. That leg is almost straight out when it is locked. The first slice of the onion and the leg locked itself in. I believed the reviews, that it didn't lock...PHOOEY...it does. The tall leg doesn't lock...but it is shaped to fit, and you are supposed to hold the rubber handle to use the slicer, so that holds the long leg in place as you slice down. When I sliced with the slicer sideways to me I did much better than with it straight out lengthwise from me. I also was able to put the long leg on my pull out cutting board and the short leg on the counter, put a container under this to catch the veggies. It worked really well. I think I am going to love the speed this will give me in slicing, and the uniformity. When I get great at this new toy, I will update this review...in a few months.

It is made of great material and very sturdy
It is made of great material and very sturdy. However it's poorly designed. The blades on the slicer aren't angled, so you end up ramming your vegetables into a perpendicular blade which makes it unable to slide delicate produce. There are only 2 julienne settings, which is disappointing for a high end and expensive mandoline. Also the blade guard rubs against the blades as you open and close it. There are little teeth on the guard that should seamlessly fall between each blade when deploying for julienne. What you get is metal on metal grinding, which will dull the blades rather quickly. This may have been a defect on my particular unit. I also Noticed that as you slice, the sliced produce builds up on top of the crinkle-cut adjustment lever, located on the underside of the mandoline. Every few strokes you have to turn it over and clear the build up. Overall this slicer was disappointing.

Heavy Duty, but blades not sharp!
I bought this thinking it would be so much easier than a knife....wrong! it mushed my tomatoes, barely cut my onions. And this is with brand new blades! Ended up giving it to Habitat for humanity. Did not want to put it on ebay due to the dull blades. Waited too long to return it to amazon. Stay away from this one. Ended up buying a swissmar v slicer, cheaper, and works beautifully!

Reasonably priced, but could be better.
I wanted a moderately priced mandoline (this one is $50), that is sturdy and has all the features of the Bron (expensive one). This appeared to fit the bill and got good reviews. It is well made, easy to set up, and easy to adjust using a dial. The problems with it are: (1) I mostly use it for fine julienne, and that blade height is not adjustable so the default size is too big -- more like a medium julienne. Argh. (2) the hand shield is completely worthless. It doesn't grab the vegetable and has a stop in the wrong place so you basically can't use it at all. Why can't they invent a hand guard that holds the vegetables and guards your hand at the same time?

Quality purchase.
Solid piece of hardware. My only complaint is that the legs dont lick down, but rely on the board being set solidly on a surface - working this board 'chopped' style takes practice. Otherwise, solid solid solid. Worth the money.Fyi, most of what thos device does can be done with a food processor and the right blade - the notable exception being french-fry cuts. This decice has less set up and clean up, and gives a cook better control over thickness of the cuts. This decice has replaced my food processor for such work.Do be careful and use the finger guard - the blade will take fingers off in slices so quickly you wont even realize it. Trust me on that.

Great Mandoline! Great Job!
I have always wanted one of these and finally now I got one! :) It is a very solid piece of kitchen equipment to have. It does a great job of slicing and very quickly. Blades are really sharp so be careful that you are using the safety food holder to protect your hands.

Very sturdy unit
I bought this mandoline as a Bday present for my son who is in culuary school. I check out quit a few in the stores and even went to a comercial/industrial store and thought I would find a good one in there but they only had 2. One unit was had plastic casing and the other was simular to this one but was $190 dollars and you had to purchase the handguard tool separate for another $30.00 - way over priced. The unit is very study and does slip when you add pressure - we have only used it a few times but if performed very well and was very easy to clean.

100% you get what you pay for. Don't cheap ...
100% you get what you pay for. Don't cheap out in the kitchen. I use it minimum of once a week. But buy it with those knife proof gloves. No one likes finger tips in their salad
